A major strength of the University of New York in Prague is its highly qualified international teaching faculty, who are committed to teaching, research, academic advising, and continued intellectual growth. UNYP's internationally diverse lecturers bring a broad range of experience and expertise into the classrooms. All emphasize a dynamic, interactive teaching style. Over 90 different faculty taught at UNYP in 2007. The majority of faculty have Ph.D.'s or are Ph.D. candidates, and the majority are native English speakers.

UNYP's faculty come from over 15 countries. Most are from the U.S. (38 %), Czech Republic (35 %), and UK (14 %). They have experience in living, working, and teaching around the world. Some faculty also teach at other Prague-based universities such as Charles University, Prague University of Economics, and Czech Technical University

Ing. Andreas Antonopoulos, M.Eng., MBA, Ph.D.

Dr. Andreas Antonopoulos holds a Ph.D. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from University College London, UK. He also earned an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and a D.Eng from the University of Patras, Greece. He has published numerous business and academic papers, and is a frequent speaker at major conferences and industry events. Before joining UNYP, Dr. Antonopoulos had an 18 year career balancing an academic, industry and entrepreneurial background. He was Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Working Knowledge, a leading telecoms advisory firm and has also spent 5 years teaching Telecom Business & Entrepreneurship, serving as an Associate  Professor and Chair of the Technology Management Department, as well as holding the position of Graduate Programs Director, at the CEU Business School of Central European University. He has held a variety of senior and middle management appointments in leading telecom sector companies such as RHK, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks and British Telecom, serving in a number of countries worldwide. Dr. Antonopoulos also Co-Founded and sits on the Board of Directors of Marathon Invest, an investment fund focusing in the CEE markets. Having worked and/or lived in Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Philippines, Romania, Singapore, Spain, UK and the US, and speaking 6 languages, Dr. Antonopoulos brings substantial international and multi-cultural experience to UNYP.

Tanweer Ali, FRM, CFA, M.A.

Tanweer Ali came to UNYP at the beginning of 2003. He has taught courses in finance and mathematics, both in our bachelors and MBA programs. He is also a mentor with Empire State College, supervising bachelors‘ theses in the business administration major. Tanweer holds an MA degree in mathematics from the University of Oxford as well as the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and FRM (Financial Risk Manager) designations. During his time at UNYP Tanweer served for one year as Department Chair for Business Administration and Mathematics. Before joining UNYP, Tanweer worked for a number of years in insurance, investment banking and consulting both in the United Kingdom and in the Czech Republic. In addition to his teaching work, Tanweer has been active with the CFA Institute in Virginia, serving for several years as an exam grader; he is currently on the institute’s curriculum committee. He also established the Czech CFA Society and was its first president. Tanweer has also served as a board member or advisor for a number of non-profit organisations, especially in the refugee and human rights fields. Tanweer was voted Outstanding Faculty Member by the 2005 graduating class.



Mark Anderson, B.A.

Mark Anderson has a degree in Communications & Media Studies. He has a strong entrepreneurial background with considerable experience in marketing. When first arriving in Prague in 2002, he started his own facility maintenance company which quickly became an industry leader and is now running his own marketing consulting businsses. He has recently worked with GE Money Bank on projects from large scale public relations events to the sponsoring of the Czech Olympic Team as well as MobilKom/U:fon on country wide BTL marketing projects. Additionally, Mark was the founder and president of the Expat Business Association of Prague and hosted many of the cities permiere business networking events.

William Cohn, J.D.

B.A., Stanford University, USA

Bill Cohn teaches law, ethics and logic courses at UNYP. He received his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law and his B.A. degree in International Relations from Stanford University. Bill practiced law for a decade in California, where the law firm he founded was chosen as a sponsor firm of the Bar Association of San Francisco. He has also held numerous positions in law, education and policy including working on Capitol Hill, for a U.S. federal district court judge, and at the United Nations. In addition to teaching, Bill advises leading international law firms in Prague, was recently invited by the Fulbright Commission to assist in developing its agenda and program on the Rule of Law, and writes about law and policy. His articles are published regularly in scholarly journals, periodicals and online publications. Bill feels that his writing keeps him honest – by keeping him actively engaged and interested in the subjects he teaches. He serves as an advisor to the UNYP Debating Society. Bill has also taught at Stanford University in the US and lectured at Charles University in the Czech Republic. A member of the California and International Bar Associations, Bill relishes bringing together theoretical and practical applications of law and public policy with inquisitive minds.
 

Luc De Ceuster, M.Sc.

Luc De Ceuster teaches Operations and Project Management in the BBA and MBA programs. Born in Antwerpen (Belgium) he obtained his masters degree in Civil and Mechanical Engineering from the Belgian Military Academy. He obtained the Masters Certificate in Project Management in 2001 from the AT&T School of Business and Technology. After his graduation in 1982, he served in the Belgian Corps of Engineers for about 8 years. In 1989 he left the military and accepted the position of professor at the Belgian Aviation School where he has been training Civil Airline pilots for 7 years. In 1996 he left the aviation to return back to civil engineering to become Director of a new environmental division in one of Belgium’s leading concrete factories. In 1999 he became Project Executive and Senior Project Manager in IBM and later in AT&T which he left in May 2006. Since 2008 he is CEO of the company APraCom. He is currently authoring a book on project management, risk management and earned value management. He is also a co-founder of Society Quality Medicine Group, a non-profit organization with the goal of using scientific knowledge to serve society.

Václav Chvalovský, CSc.

C.Sc. (Ph.D.), Czech Academy of Science, Czech Republic

Václav Chvalovský teaches several management classes at UNYP, such as Project Management, Information Management in Business, and Strategic Management. He received a Postgraduate Degree in Economics (CSc.) from the Czech Academy of Science. In addition to teaching, Václav also works as an IT consultant on various projects for local companies and multinational corporations such as Deloitte. Václav has taught in higher education for over 30 years, and has also taught at the University of Economics in Prague and the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He also has extensive professional experience, which includes working as a programmer, IT manager, project manager and sales manager. He has published over 100 professional articles, and is an avid mountaineer.

doc. Ing. Helena Fialová, Csc.

Dr. Helena Fialová is an instructor in the Business Administration and IEE Departments at UNYP. Dr. Fialová has a PhD in economics from the Prague School of Economics. She is considered an expert in the field. She has worked on numerous research projects, many of which have dealt with macroeconomic forecasting of the Czech Economy. She has been a Visiting Lecturer at universities in Japan, California, Hawaii, Chicago, Belgium and the UK. She has written numerous textbooks on macro- and microeconomics and the business cycle, as well as several dictionaries of business and economic terms in Czech and English. She is continuously publishing academic articles in various scholarly economic journals. Dr. Fialová is a Visiting Faculty at the Prague University of Economics; the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Engineering, and the MBA program at the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies, ČVUT.

doc. Ing. Martin Hála, Csc.

Csc. (Ph.D.), Charles University, Czech Republic

Dr. Martin Hála teaches a large variety of math courses at UNYP such College Algebra, Basic Calculus, Statistics for Business and Economics, and Business Mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in statistics at the Charles University. He also teaches Mathematics and Statistics at the Czech Technical University. In addition to teaching, Martin also works as an actuary at Pension Fund of Komercni banka. He has published numerous articles on mathematics and statistics in various scholarly journals. He has worked on numerous research projects dealing with direct applications of statistics in traffic engineering.

Jaroslav Halík, MBA, Ph.D.

Dr. Jaroslav Halík has been teaching Operations Management, International Business and Marketing Management in both the BBA and MBA Programs of UNYP. He finished his MSc at Norweigian School of Management Oslo, his MBA at RIT New York, and his Ph.D. at the University of Economics in Prague. Dr. Halík has extensive professional experience having worked as a Business Development Manager, a Marketing Manager and a Sales Director in multinational companies. He is an active consultant in the areas of international business and marketing strategy.

Anna Higgs, L.L.M, J.D.

L.L.M, Georgetown University, USA

Anna Higgs teaches Career Development and law classes at UNYP. She received her law degree and an advanced law degree (LL.M in Taxation) from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C. In addition to teaching, Anna also is a co-owner of D.I.K. Consulting, a business and management consulting firm. Anna worked for many years at Price Waterhouse, both in Prague and in the US, as a senior manager and in other positions in the tax and legal departments. In addition, she s also worked as a law clerk and a senior attorney for over six years in Washington D.C.. Anna also works as a trainer of workshops, seminars and conferences.

Jon Holmes, M.A., ACMA

Jon Holmes is a qualified accountant and gained experience of stock broking and investment banking whilst working in the City of London. Jon has an undergraduate degree in History and a Masters in International Studies, both from Sheffield University. He also holds a Certificate in Training Practice and has delivered corporate training in a number of European countries.

Dennis Morbin, M.A.

Originally from Canada, Dennis has lived and worked in Europe for over 15 years of which the past 13 have been in the Czech Republic. He received his B.A. in History from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario and his Master of Education in Linguistics from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He presently teaches a number of business topics at UNYP. In addition, he facilitates groups through employing the World Cafe, Open Space Technology and Appreciative Inquiry methodologies as well as conducting meditation workshops. He enjoys cross-country skiing, cycling, swimming and hiking through the Czech countryside.



David Muir, MBA

A Canadian who spent most of his formative years in Montréal, he graduated from l’Université de Montréal’s Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC). His M.Sc. is from University of Leicester, which he read for at the Abu Dhabi campus, where he taught , MBA courses for several years. David teaches a number of Finance and Accounting courses at UNYP. Professionally, he has worked in accounting, administration and credit in both banks and private companies over more than 20 years. Before leaving Canada, he was the National Credit Manager for Canada Post’s Retail Operations. He went to Abu Dhabi for nine years to work for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, where he worked as on internal and external funds, as well as human resources. He has been living in Kladno, Czech Republic with his wife since 2002.

Athanassios Pantazopoulos, LL.M, Ph.D.

Dr. Athanassios Pantazopoulos, LL.M. is an instructor of law at UNYP. He received his law degree from the University of Athens, and his LL.M and Ph.D. in International and European Law from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany. He is an active attorney, admitted in Athens, Munich and the Czech Republic. As an attorney, he specializes in European and international law. Dr. Athanassios Pantazopoulos has a very good command of the English, German and Czech languages.


William Pattison, MBA

William is a full time faculty and Director of the MBA Programs at UNYP. He specializes in the areas of Marketing, Strategic Business Development and Project Management. William is a veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army where he was Platoon Sergeant and has served in Europe as well as in the USA. He has been decorated seven times for outstanding leadership and going above and beyond the call of duty. William moved to the Czech Republic in 2002 and worked as a business consultant to companies such as Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals and 3M, driving business through developing sales and marketing programs. In 2005 he took a full time position with the 3M company as the country wide Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. He was later promoted to regional manager for 3M Central & Eastern Europe. Specializing in change management and strategic leadership, he oversaw the modernization of all of 3M's subsidiaries in CEE, CIS & parts of the Middle East. In this position, he has worked in countries such as Turkey, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania & Poland. He has been teaching and/or guest lecturing at various Universities and MBA programs in the Czech Republic since 2008.

Pier Andrea Podda, Ma.

Pietro was born in Sardinia, Italy and educated in Rome. He studied Political Sciences and specialized, at a Master level, in EU and International Affairs. He was an active member of the group advising the Erasmus Program. After a further post - Master course on EU law he started working in the banking sector as a financial analyst and later, as an investment consultant. Currently, Pietro is conducting his Ph.D. research on foreign direct investment into the Czech Republic.

Radim Polcak, Ph.D.

Dr. Polcak graduated and later received his doctorate in commercial law from the Faculty of Law, Masaryk University. He is also a visiting lecturer at universities in the Czech Republic, Austria, UK, Netherlands and Hungary. In addition, Dr. Polcak is the general chair of the annual international conference on Cyberspace; editor-in-chief of the Masaryk University Journal of Law and Technology; and a member of editorial boards of legal journals in the Czech Republic and Hungary. He is a panelist at the .eu ADR arbitration court and a member of the Expert Committee on eJustice at the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic.

Douglas H. Pressman, Ph.D.

Dr. Douglas H. Pressman has taught in the executive MBA programs of five North American, AACSB-accredited business schools: University of Pittsburgh, University of Calgary, Bowling Green State University, Rider University and DePaul University, with teaching assignments spanning the USA, Germany, China and the Czech Republic. Since 2006 he is a faculty member at UNYP, where he teaches Entrepreneurship and Banking, Conflict Resolution, Public Relations and Sociology. Prior to earning his Ph.D. in Development Sociology at Brown University (1993), Dr. Pressman worked for six years with the international division of the Bank of California, where he was responsible for institutional lending and country risk assessment in Latin America and Southeast Asia. Before moving to Prague in 1997, he taught international studies and sociology at Brown University, College of the Holy Cross, and, under a Fulbright grant, at the University of Oregon. Dr. Pressman earned his B.A. degree with honors at Colgate University, and he also holds an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). He has taught a broad range of topics at the MBA level, including corporate finance, cross-cultural management, strategic management, international marketing, and entrepreneurship. Between 1997 and 2000 he trice won the "Best Professor Award" from the MBA graduates at the Czech Management Center. His publications include work on globalization and social change, as well as a popular business case study for Thunderbird on the Czech economic transition of the early 1990s.

Alex Reidl, M.A.

Before recently moving to Prague Alex Reidl led a very successful global Marketing/PR & Sales career in the automotive industry with Mercedes-Benz, BMW Group and Volvo Car Corporation. He has been a senior Manager with personnel responsibility for over 10 years. He also runs his own Marketing consultancy business in Prague and also gives corporate trainings and works as Coach. Alex holds a Masters degree in International Management & Marketing, Organizational behavior & HR Management from a top German university. Having worked and/or lived in Australia, Brazil, Dubai, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Sweden, UK and the US Alex’ brings a significant experience of intercultural management and marketing experience to UNYP. He currently teaches Organizational behavior & Leadership in the MBA program and Special advanced Marketing in the undergraduate program.


Ing. Dan Šťastný, Ph.D.,

Dr. Dan Šťastný teaches Economics at UNYP. He received his Ph.D. at the Prague School of Economics. He has also taught International Trade at the International School of Business and Law, as well as at the Prague School of Economics. Since 1998, he has taught at the Liberal Institute Summer University, and currently, he holds the position of Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the School of Economics and Public Administration at the Prague School of Economics. Dr. Šťastný has been a visiting scholar at George Mason University and New York University in the US. He has published numerous articles on economic policy and trade in dozens of scholarly journals. He has also written articles for magazines and newspapers. Dr. Šťastný speaks English and German fluently.

Mark Tomass, Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Tomass is teaching International Trade & Finance, and Money & Banking. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Northeastern University in Massachusetts, USA and has since worked as an economics professor for over 15 years. Some of the universities he taught at include Harvard and Northeastern University in the United States, and Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. He has published numerous articles on economics in various scholarly journals, and has given paper presentations at over 25 universities across the US and Europe. Dr. Tomass is currently writing a book on conflict resolution, which he hopes to title "How Do Nations Self-Destruct?" He also works as a flamenco instructor.
 


Mark Wiedorn, MBA

With over 15 years experience in sales, sales management, marketing and management, Mark is a seasoned professional. He has worked for some of the most dynamic companies in financial services in the U.S., including Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo, Harris Bank, and Bank of Montreal. He has held positions such as Director of Investment Services, Senior Business Development Officer, Sales Manager and Financial Consultant. He has been actively involved in recruiting, training and managing people.

PhDr. Todd Nesbitt, Ph.D.

Dr. Todd Nesbitt is Chair of the department of Communication and Mass Media at UNYP, and is the Prague director of the Master's program in Professional Communication and Public Relations granted by La Salle University. He holds a Ph.D., PhDr., and a Master’s Degree from the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism of the faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, and a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and a letter of equivalency in English from the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Nesbitt has taught courses at the faculties of Law, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Charles University. He was awarded the outstanding faculty award for teaching excellence at UNYP in 2004. His research interests include strategic political communication, media globalization and media ownership, and his community involvement has consisted of holding public talks on, contributing to the local press about, and giving seminars and teaching courses at public schools on media related issues.

Mark Baker, M.A.

Mark Baker teaches journalism classes in the Communication and Mass Media Department at UNYP. He received a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University in New York. He has worked as an editor and reporter for the Economist Group in Vienna, Bloomberg News and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, where he was the Deputy Managing Editor of the English-language newsroom. He is currently a freelance writer for the National Geographic Society and the Wall Street Journal Europe, among other publications. He also runs training workshops at RFE/RL on writing news for broadcast.

James Critz, Ph.D.

Dr. Critz has worked extensively in the IT industry, primarily for Hewlett-Packard Company, Palo Alto, California USA, and at universities in the US and Central Europe as both an educator and consultant on technical and business management issues. He obtained a doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, and continues to apply linguistic analysis to understanding of how people think and communicate in the business environment and using internet based technologies. He has applied his research to the development of intelligent software systems to support management and technical experts in solving business problems. In Silicon Valley he was part of a team that developed an education program to help new technology start-up companies request VC funding and bring their business management skills up to speed. At UNYP teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in business management, information technologies and communications with a particular emphasis on knowledge management, process and performance analysis and the use of current technologies such as web design, multimedia, ecommerce and intelligent tools.

Mgr. Beth Lazroe

M.A., FAMU, Czech Republic

Beth Lazroe teaches Visual Culture at UNYP. She holds a Master’s degree from FAMU, Czech Republic, and a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language to adults from the University of Cambridge. She has taught at Dublin City University in Ireland, as well as at FAMU in Prague. She began her photographic career at Contrejour, Paris, 1977, where she had her first exhibition, and in 1978 moved to Ireland, becoming a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ireland and Great Britain in 1981. In 1988 she established, through the city’s Civic Museum, the first Community Photographic Archive within the public library system. She has received assistance from the Irish Arts Council, Dublin Corporation, Ilford Limited, Agfa-Gevaert Limited and other private sponsors. Mrs. Lazroe publishes, exhibits and lectures throughout Europe, and FAMU published a textbook in Visual Culture written by her in 1998.

Tess Slavíčková, M.A.

Mrs. Slavickova teaches Introduction to Communication and Public Speaking in the Communication and Mass Media Department at UNYP. She received a Master's degree in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester, and is currently a Ph.D. student in the Dept of English Language and Linguistics at Lancaster University, England. Mrs. Slavickova has worked as an English language teacher in Portugal, France and the UK, before training as a book editor at Oxford University Press. She has also worked at the British Council in the Czech Republic as editor in chief of Perspectives, a journal for teacher trainers in central Europe. In 2007 she also set up her own school of English in Prague, specializing in training for examinations and business presentations.

Ing. Josef Vacl, CSc.

Josef Vacl teaches Introduction to Public Relations in the Communication and Mass Media Department at UNYP. He holds a CSc. (Ph.D. equivalent) and a Master’s Degree (Ing.) from the Prague School of Economics, where he specialized in international trade. Josef Vacl has taught also at The College of Tourism, Hotel And Spa Management (Marketing of Services) where he served also as the Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific Affairs. He has also taught Advertising & Public Relations on the IUKB MBA program at UNYP. Josef Vacl has presented papers at numerous international conferences, and publishes regularly in the popular as well as professional press. Josef Vacl has had a significant professional career. He was stationed for 6 years as a representative of the leading Czech travel and hotel corporation in New York. He was also CEO of the Maccorp Holding Ltd. (finance and travel) and CEO of the Certum Pension Fund. He worked for 6 years for Burson - Marsteller, the leading PR agency in the world, and was in charge of clients such as Boeing, GE Money Bank, Visa International etc. He has also worked in the areas of international conference coordination.

Mgr. Veronika Zavřelová , Ph.D.

Ph.D., Mgr., B.A., Palacky University, Czech Republic

Dr. Veronika Zavrelova teaches in the department of Communication and Mass Media. She earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. She also holds a Master’s degree in English and Czech Philology, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the same University. Dr. Zavrelova has significant instructional experience in both the American and Czech educational systems: She has taught at the University of Nebraska and Beloit College in Wisconsin, worked on research at Earlham College in Richmond Indiana, and was also a full-time faculty member at Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Czech Republic, where she also served as Vice-Dean for International Relations. At UNYP, Dr. Zavrelova has taught Interpersonal Communication, Communication Among Cultures, Sociolinguistics, and Organizational Communication. Dr. Zavrelova has presented papers at numerous international conferences, and has published regularly in the popular press in both English and Czech. She has also worked in the areas of international conference coordination, and human resources consulting.

Oscar Hidalgo holds the position of Chair of the Department of International and Economic Relations. Born in the Basque Country in Spain, he earned an M.Phil. by research in Politics and Government from Graduate School of Politics and International Relations of the University of Kent at Canterbury and an M.A. in Politics and Sociology from the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU). Currently, he is completing a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Social Studies of the Masaryk University in Brno where he also teaches courses on Comparative Politics and Democratization. Mr. Hidalgo joined UNYP in 2003 and has since been teaching courses on comparative politics and international relations. In 2005, he was awarded the outstanding faculty award for teaching excellence at UNYP. Oscar is cooperating with the Cervantes Institute where he has directed the courses of Spanish for diplomats. His research interests include comparative politics and democratization.

Charles Webel, Ph.D.

Dr. Charles Webel earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Political and Social Thought, and a B.A. in Social and Political Thought at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Webel also did postdoctoral studies at the Schools of Medicine and Public Health at Harvard  University, and is a reseach graduate of the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California.
Dr. Webel joined UNYP in 2008 and is currently teaching courses in several UNYP degree programs. Dr. Webel has a rich and prolific academic career. He has been Senior Fulbright Specialist and has taught at universities around the world, including the University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University, the Saybrook Graduate School, the University of Heidelberg, the University of Rome, and the University of Tromso (Norway), among others. He has published a number of books, including the widely known Peace and Conflict Studies (with David Barash); the Handbook of Peace and Conflict Studies (edited with Johann Galtung) London: Routledge, 2007; and Terror, Terrorism, and the Human Condition, London: Palgrave-Macmillan, 2007. Among his current books projects is a Reader in Peace and Conflict Studies, which will be published in 2011 by Routledge. Dr. Webel's research areas include terrorism, political and social psychology, psychoanalysis, European philosophy, peace and conflict resolution, and social and political theory.

Adrian Brisku, M.A.

Adrian Brisku teaches in the International Economic Relations Department. Adrian Brisku earned a M.A. in Political Science at the Central European University in Budapest and a M.A. in Contemporary European Studies at the Sussex University. Adrian is completing a Ph.D.. in History and Civilisation at the prestigious European University Institute in Florence. His main areas of interests are South-Eastern European history and politics, politics of transition and European integration. He has a number of publications and contributions in books about South-Eastern European history and politics.

Timothy Childers, Ph.D.

Dr. Childers holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the prestigious London School of Economics in addition to a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the Louisiana State University. Currently, Dr. Childers combines his academic work at UNYP teaching political philosophy, logic and ethics with a position as researcher at the Department of Logic of the Institute of Philosophy Academic of Science of the Czech Republic. Dr. Childers joined UNYP in 2002 and since then he has been a very active member of the academic community, serving in the Academic Board from 2008-2009 and contributing to the organization of the Debating Workshops of UNYP's Debating Society. Among his research interests are philosophy of science and probability and has published over a dozen of articles in scholarly journals and is currently working on a book called "Philosophy and probability: an introduction."

Juraj Draxler, M.A.

Juraj Draxler holds an M.A. in Comparative Politics from the University of York and a B.A. in Integrated Social Sciences from International University Bremen (today Jacobs University). Currently he is in advanced stage of his Ph.D. thesis on new theoretical approaches to the welfare state at the University of Lancaster. He is Associate Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels. Mr. Draxler specializes in European politics and in social policy. In the last years he has produced a good number of articles on the reform of pension systems in Europe and on social policy. He also has rich professional experience in public relations and journalism. Mr. Draxler has been part of the Department of International and Economic Relations at UNYP since 2007

Dr. David Lipka teaches Comparative economic systems at UNYP. He received his Ph.D. at the Prague University of Economics (UEP). He holds a master degree in international trade and in philosophy and a doctoral degree in general economic theory and history of economic thought. Since 2004, he has been an assistant professor at the Department of economic policy and later the Department of institutional economics at UEP. He chairs the Department of institutional economics, now. Since 2006 he has served as the research director of the Liberalni institut in Prague. He has published numerous scholarly articles in economics and philosophy and dozens of articles for magazines and newspapers. He is frequently invited to comment on economic policy on Czech TV and Radio.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Steven Pashkewych started his teaching career at the secondary level for a number of years in Toronto after receiving a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and a B.Ed. in New Zealand, then moving on to teaching at the university level after receiving an MA in International Relations from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. He has taught courses in International Politics at Seoul Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea as well as having taught courses in International Relations, Political Economy and Politics in European Universities. Mr. Pashkewych has taught courses in International Political Economy, Energy and Globalization at UNYP since 2007.

Born in Romania, he moved with his family to Hungary where he finished his MA in History and Philosophy at Szeged University. He joined one of the first TEMPUS scholarship programs in Central-Europe, pursuing studies at Amsterdam University and he completed his PhD studies at Debrecen University. He has worked for the NGO Bibó István NGO in Hungary, organizing civic activities in the DKMT Euro-region, aiming at the democratization of the former Yugoslavia, and finding new, peaceful relations and multicultural dialogue in the bordering areas in Romania, Serbia, and Hungary. In 2008 he joined the editorial board of HABITUS, a journal in multicultural studies and democratic transition published in Novi Sad, Serbia. At present he lives in Hradec Králové,  he has been working as a visiting lecturer at different such as the University of Pardubice, Charles University and the University of Hradec Králové. He joined UNYP in February, 2010.

His main research interest is a criticism of modernity, the role of ideologies and philosophical perspectives in the process of democratic transition in Central-Europe.



John Strong, M.Sc.

John Strong earned a M.Sc. from the National War College in Washington D.C. and has completed a diploma program in Military Arts and Science at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. John completed a long career in the U.S. Army, retiring in 2006 at the rank of Colonel. He has served as a military instructor (including an adjunct teaching position at the Partnership for Peace Training Center in Ankara, Turkey), and as a strategy analyst and senior policy planner for the Department of the Army in the Pentagon. Mr. Strong also served at several U.S. embassies, including duty as the Defense Attaché in Sarajevo. He joined UNYP in 2008 and has taught courses in American Government and Politics. His main areas of interest are American foreign policy, international security and military and strategic issues.

Mike Johnson, M.Sc.

Mike Johnson, currently serving as Chair of the Psychology Department at UNYP, received his M.Sc. in Experimental Psychology and Psycholinguistics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is currently conducting his Ph.D. research at the Sexology Institute of the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague in the area of Medical Psychology and Psychopathology. At UNYP, he teaches courses in General Psychology and Science and Sexuality, and has twice received UNYP’s Outstanding Faculty Award. In the past, he has worked as a management consultant in the area of psychology and communication, having held trainings for top international companies such as McDonald’s, Pepsi, British Petroleum, Dupont, and Hewlett Packard both in Prague and across Central Europe as well as currently serving as a Language Consultant for Czech Television. He also is the co-owner and former Chief Operating Officer of a successful software house in Prague, which develops database solutions for such major companies as RWE Transgas. He speaks English, Czech and German and in his free time he enjoys bodybuilding.

Dr. Lior Behar moved from Israel
to the Czech Republic, to earn his M.A. in Clinical Psychology and later his Ph.D. in Psychology, both from Charles University, while undergoing extensive training in the specialization of psychoanalysis from the Czech Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. At UNYP, he teaches courses in Abnormal Psychology and Counseling Theories He also runs the Behar Center, which offers psychological services to both Czechs and the international community in Prague.

Joseph Dodds, M.A.

Joseph Dodds is a British psychologist with an M.A. in psychoanalytic studies from Sheffield University. He a member of the British Psychological Society, the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society, an Associate Member of the British Association of Art Therapists, and a Candidate in the Czech Psychoanalytical Society. Mr Dodds is currently working as a therapist at Terapie.Info and completing his Ph.D. in Psychoanalytic Studies at Sheffield University's School of Health and Related Research. He previously worked at the Ellern Mede Centre for Eating Disorders and on various art therapy projects. He teaches 'Experimental Psychology', Social Psychology', 'Living in Social and Political Crisis' and 'Neuropsychoanalysis' at UNYP, and in addition lectures at Charles University in 'Psychoanalysis and Society', and 'Psychoanalysis and Art'. His most recent publication is 'Artificial Group Psychodynamics: Emergence of the Collective', a chapter-article in the book Emulating the Mind. Joseph Dodds has been actively engaged in the rapidly developing new interdisciplinary research field of neuropsychoanalysis, and is working towards the founding of a Prague Neuropsychoanalysis Group, including through presentations to the Czech Psychoanalytical Society and the London Neuropsychoanalysis Seminar.

Dr. Jan Fiala graduated in 1998 from the Third Medical Faculty, Charles University in Prague and started his career as a clinical psychiatrist in the same year. He executed managerial functions in institutions providing health care and education and in 2007 he undertook the C.E.O. role in Fiala Partners s.r.o. Since 1998, Dr. Jan Fiala researches human motivation and its application in macroeconomics as a specific topic. He gives lectures in management, managerial psychology, is a sought-after coach and an advocate of the cognitive-behavioral approach in coaching. Désirée Gonzalo received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London. There she conducted research in the areas of depressogenic attributions in individuals with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and in the effectiveness of psycho-education as a stabilization tool in asylum seekers and refugees with PTSD. She received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from Functional Imaging Laboratory (Institute of Neurology) at University College London, where she conducted research in the area of functional neuroanatomy of learning and memory and multisensory integration. She also held a 4-year postdoctoral research position at Hamburg University in Germany, where she continued along the same research lines as during her PhD. She received her M.Sc. in Neurological Science from University College London, during which she conducted research in the area of functional neuroanatomy of language. She also received a B.Sc. in Neuroscience from Sussex University, where she conducted research in the area of invertebrate learning. Dr. Gonzalo currently teaches Research Methods for Social Sciences at UNYP. At present, she works as therapist at the City Practice Prague and for the student counseling services at UNYP and NYU. She is a member of the British Psychological Society. Dr. Gonzalo's professional interests are mainly in the practice of clinical psychology and clinical research, as well as in teaching. She is also interested in languages, cultures, and writing. She speaks English, Spanish, German, Italian, French, and is learning Czech.

Craig Mc Nulty, M.Sc., Ph.D.

Dr. Craig McNulty is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with training and experience in cognitive and behavioral therapy techniques and in diagnostic and evaluative psychometric assessment and personality profiling. He received his M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology from The Institute of Psychiatry, London University and his Doctor of Clinical Psychology (D.Clin.Psy) from the University of East Anglia. He has eighteen years of post-qualification experience in the treatment of anxiety, and stress related disorders; depression, phobias and post-traumatic stress as well as experience in the assessment of the psychological effects of human rights abuse and psychological distress among refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. He also acts as an independent expert in civil and criminal litigation. Dr. McNulty has professional training in UK employment law and holds a postgraduate certificate in management. He is currently an associate practitioner and service manager with The City Practice, an independent clinical psychology service providing diagnostic assessment, therapy and counseling services in the U.K. and the rest of Europe, with consulting rooms in London and Prague. He also manages the UNYP Counseling Center. Dr. Mc Nulty teaches Forensic Psychology in the undergraduate program, and manages the professional case supervision in the Clinical-Counseling Master’s program.

Hazel Mykroft, Ph.D.

Dr. Hazel Mycroft is a psychologist specializing in the treatment of survivors of rape, sexual abuse and eating disorders. She received her Ph.D. in social psychology from Loughborough University and has received specialized certificates in both Counseling and eating disorders. She currently works as an associate counselor with The City Practice. Dr. Mycroft is also an active researcher in the psychology of diet and weight management. Dr. Mycroft teaches courses in Social psychology, Group Dynamics, Persuasion, and Qualitative Research Methods as well as supervising the UNYP Counseling Center.



RNDr. Ludek Nerad, CSc.

Dr. Ludek Nerad’s main area of interest lies in functional organization of the brain. His decision to build his professional career as a neuroscientist grew while he was a student of physics at the School of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. He completed his CSc. studentship in biology at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, where he continued working in brain research until 2000. Then he moved to New Zealand to work in the same field for 5 years. Besides, he taught a fourth year course on “Experimental methods in psychology”. Dr. Nerad currently teaches Human Biology and Biology and the Brain at UNYP. His other foreign contracts in brain research included the University of Provence in Marseille, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and University of Dundee. In his experiments he used various behavioral, surgical, electrophysiological, histological, and computational methods. He is a co-discoverer (with Dr. David Bilkey) of ‘flutter’, a 12-Hz EEG rhythm in the rat brain. Despite his wide experimental experience, he puts more emphasis on theory. He is currently working on a monograph about the principles of conscious awareness.

Dr. Ondřej Rak completed his PhDr. in Cultural Studies at Charles University in Prague and is currently working as an HR Consultant and Marketing Manager at Image Lab s.r.o, one of the Czech Republic’s top HR training and consultancy companies. As an HR Consultant, Dr. Rak has cooperated with many companies delivering trainings and consultancy projects. The main companies included Škoda Auto, ABB, Lincoln, DSV, Iveco Irisbus and many others. During his career, he went through many trainings himself, including a Trainer Qualification with Volkswagen A.G. from which he obtained the Volkswagen Service Trainer Certificate. Dr. Rak is also active in the academic world. He has taught university courses on the topics of Psychology of Management and is currently teaching Personnel Psychology at UNYP. His university studies were focused on two main areas: Psychology and Cultural Studies. In Psychology, his main areas of interest were depression treatment and also connection between psychology and business. In cultural studies, his research was focused on social and psychological impacts of destruction of the old town in Most in the Czech Republic. He speaks English and Czech, has a Rhodesian Ridgeback, Káťa, loves fast cars and plays drums in hard rock band called Kdyby Psi.

Dr. Marek Preiss earned his Ph.D. from Charles University in Clinical Psychology as well as undergoing extensive training in psychodynamic therapy. In addition to teaching Psychology of Adjustment and Theories of Personality, he also works as a Clinical Psychologist and researcher at Prague Psychiatric Center, where he continues publishing his research on cognitive testing, personality disorders and other topics.

Dr. Filip Smolík earned his Ph.D. on a Fulbright Scholarship in the Child Language Doctoral Program at the University of Kansas, and teaches Developmental and Cognitive psychology at UNYP as well as serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Institute of Psychology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. His particular interests are in the field of language acquisition, developmental psycholinguistics and psychology of language. He has designed special software for the analysis of child language data in addition to publishing many papers and book chapters on the subject.

Dr. Will Barnard is Dean of Liberal Studies at UNYP. He earned an A.B. from Princeton University, an M.A. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), where he specialized in 19th-century American cultural studies and literature. At UNYP he has served variously as Associate Dean, Academic Director of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Weekend Studies Programs, and Vice President of Academic Affairs. He teaches courses in American culture, critical thinking, and university writing.

Shaana Aljoe, M.A.

Shaana Aljoe teaches English Composition at UNYP. She also teaches business English and works with the Czech Press Agency and has had professional management experience in the education, wine, and clothing industries. Ms Aljoe has taught English language courses at a number of institutions in England and Czech Republic including Huron University and Nottingham University in the UK, and here in Prague at Charles University and local language schools. Although originally from the US, Ms Aljoe’s undergraduate and postgraduate degrees were completed in London, England at Richmond International University and at the University of Westminster respectively. Ms Aljoe is currently engaged in researching for her doctorate in Education at the University of Nottingham. Her research focuses on improving the efficacy of content-based language learning at tertiary level. It is hoped that this research will benefit writing teachers who teach multilingual students attending English-medium universities such as UNYP. She is also currently developing international music programs for young musical scholars with the European Composer in Residence, Jaz Coleman.

George Allen, M.A.

George Allen is a Photographer and Educator currently living in the Czech Republic. Originally from the United States he studied European History and Studio Art at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia for his Bachelor of Arts. After graduating he worked for a few years before volunteering for a brief stint with the Americorps National Civilian Community Corps. Upon completion of the program, he entered the Graduate School at Virginia Commonwealth University in order to continue his studies and received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Photography in 2004. Before moving to the Czech Republic, he spent six years in Richmond, Virginia teaching at multiple colleges and working extensively in both the photography and film industries. He teaches digital photography at UNYP.

Drew Brandon, M.A.

Mark Andrew Brandon has taught at UNYP since 2004. Originally from the United States, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in European History at Cedarville College and a Master’s Degree at Kansas State University in Early Modern European History in 1994. Since then, he has lived in both the United States and the Czech Republic. From 1996 to 2000, he taught History at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. He is currently a doctoral student at Univerzita Jana Evangelisty Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic. The main theme of his research is the Czech nobility and the Counter Reformation in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. This topic involves issues such as supernatural and magical beliefs, conflict in towns and villages over ritual and “sacred space,” and the place of religious belief in the Czech social and political context.

Colin Steele Clark M.A.

Colin teaches English Composition courses at UNYP since 2004. A Scot living in Prague, he took his M.A. with joint Honours in English and Politics at the University of Glasgow before continuing his studies in Journalism in Darlington, England. He is enrolled in the Ph.D. program at Charles University’s Department of English and American Studies where he is also a lecturer on British Cultural Studies, Academic Writing and British History. His specialization is Scottish Literature and Culture. He is presently preparing a course on Scottish Studies, and has previously lectured on courses as diverse as Scottish Literature, Scottish Fantasy Literature, Literary Theory, Literary History, Scottish Film and Identity, Victorian Literature, Children’s Literature and British Science Fiction. He has lived in the Czech Republic since 2001.

Dr. Tracy Dove is editor of The Russia News Service and writes a column called The Naked Historian that focuses on the history behind the headlines. After completing a Bachelor's Degree in European History at George Mason University in 1986, he went to Germany to pursue graduate studies in Russian history at the Freie Universität in West Berlin. Tracy Dove witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War first hand; he worked as a translator for CBS News in Berlin in 1989 and as a producer for NBC News at the Moscow bureau in 1992. He completed his Ph.D. in 1998 and began teaching history in various cities around the world, including Buenos Aires, Prague and Moscow.

Juwana Jenkins, B.A.

Juwana Jenkins began teaching as a Fulbright Scholar in South Korea where she was also an instructor at the Seoul National Language Research Institute. With a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Honors in Media Studies, she is a former News Director for the National Public Radio (USA) who also trains executives in international companies in communications and presentation skills. In addition to her teaching and training, she speaks internationally at conferences, delivering keynote addresses and workshops based on her international management experience in both commercial and non-profit organizations.

Alisa Linarejos Jiménez, M.A.

Alisa Linarejos Jiménez is teaching Spanish language courses at the UNYP Liberal Arts department. Born in Madrid (Spain) she obtained her BA in Translation and Interpretation in the Complutense University of Madrid. After graduation she continued her studies at the Menendez Pelayo International University of Santander (Spain) where she completed her master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Since then she has worked as an Spanish teacher in France and Spain. She has been working at the Cervantes Institute of Prague since 2006. She has been a member of the examination board in the DELE exams (Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language) in Prague and Brno. He joined UNYP in 2008.

Mgr. Katerina Machacova

Kateřina Machačová studied Czech language and literature at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. After having been teaching Czech for foreigners for several years in various language schools in Prague she founded her own language school Step by Step in 2001. There she is not only a co-owner but also a managing director and teacher. As a tutor she gives Czech courses for foreign managers of international companies.

Simon North M.A.

Simon North was born in England and received his M.A. in Fine Art from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Following post-graduate studies in painting at the Edinburgh College of Art, he worked as an independent artist, drawing teacher, freelance lecturer/guide in the education department of the National Galleries of Scotland and humanities tutor at the Edinburgh College of Art. He has taught English in France, the UK, Hungary and the Czech Republic. In Prague, he was a tutor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Art and Architecture at the Central European University, where he was also responsible for library acquisitions. He has worked in cultural tourism as a guide and lecturer (in France and the Czech Republic) and as an art history lecturer for numerous American study abroad programs in Prague. He was Academic Director of the School for International Training (SIT) program “Arts and Social Change” in 1997. Currently he is also teaching courses on Czech art and architecture at New York University (NYU) in Prague. RNDr., PhDr. Petr Pelikán

RNDr., PhDr., M.Sc., M.A., Charles University, Czech Republic

Dr. Petr Pelikán has been teaching since 1975 at the University of Economics and later at Charles University. He has graduated at Philosophic Faculty and Faculty of Natural Science of Charles University with a Ph.D. in Geography. Dr. Pelikán had a number of professional engagements as translator, interpreter, and consultant for ministries, bank institutions, newspapers, Czechoslovak T.V.. In 1990 he had a work stay in Japan organized by the Japanese governmental foundation, sent by the Ministry of Education representing the country for the study of educational systems and methods. He has been teaching at UNYP since 1999 the courses of World Economy, World Geography and German language. In 2003 –2004 he was appointed to the post of UNYP academic coordinator for the Czech Ministry of Education.

Toni Purdy

Associate Diploma, Canberra Institute of Technology

Toni Purdy is an ESL teacher in Prague. She was born in Australia, gained her TESOL Cert. through Teach International in Brisbane; Cert. in Hospitality Operations at the North Coast College of Technical and Further Education; Assoc.Dip. in Business and Finance and Cert. in Bus.Comms. at the Canberra Institute of Technology and Small Business Management at the Canberra College of Technical and Further Education, Australia. Prior to coming to Prague, she taught English as a Second Language in China. Before leaving Australia, she taught a communications program titled “YouthSpeak” to middle-high school students and while in China wrote and taught a communications program for adult learners of a second language titled “Advance”. She is currently teaching a writing development course at the UNYP. Through Toastmasters International she has gained the distinctions of High Performance Leadership, Leadership Excellence and Distinguished Toastmaster, 2008; District 69 Area Governor of the Year 2004-05 and Competent Leader, 2002.

Natasha Sutta

Natasha Sutta is a native Czech and English speaker, and is fluent in Russian and Chinese. She earned a Postgraduate Diploma from University College in Cardiff, UK, a B.A. from Durham University UK, and a BFA from NTNU Taiwan, ROC after two years of intensive Mandarin language study at the Mandarin Training Centre in Taiwan R.O.C. NTNU (National Taiwan Normal University) is a pedagogical university, with subjects such as Principles of Instruction and Educational Psychology. Compulsory classes included Chinese history, Chinese philosophy, as well as Written and Oral Mandarin, and Chinese literature. Natasha is a professional artist, and has held several international Solo exhibitions of paintings. Attendees included government and cultural representatives from different countries. She has been teaching at UNYP since September 2000. Her courses include Understanding China, Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy, Introduction to Drawing and Design and Introduction to Painting.

Jaroslav Šesták, MEng., Ph.D., DSc.,

Dr. Jaroslav Šesták was born in the village ‘Držkov’ (North Bohemian Mountains) where he still possesses a small farm. He obtained a degree M.Eng in silicate chemistry (1962) and Ph.D. in solid state physics (1968), both in Prague, the latter degree was approved while he spend a year at the University of Missouri at Rolla as an assistant professor in ceramics (UMR 1970). Jaroslav devoted his scientific proficiency in experimental and theoretical studies related to the field of material thermodynamics and after communistic persecution (when he was not permitted to teach) he was finally allowed to became a full professor in material sciences and engineering (1993) and was credited by the highest gradation of D.Sc. for his life achievements. He edited and authored 15 books and monographs, published almost 300 papers that have received almost 2500 citations. Jaroslav was a cofounding member of ICTAC (1965), Thermochimica Acta (1970) and Journal of Mining and Metallurgy (1997) and is a member of the editorial board of Journal Thermal Analysis as well as he participates in other scientific and educational boards. Beside his scientific career he was a league basketball player, mountaineer (Himalaya, Caucasus, Asian Pamir, South American Andes and the European Alps – earning needed funds as an occasional window-cleaner roping down tall buildings), ski instructor, politician (deputy and member of the Prague government 1994-1998, once a candidate for the seat in the Czech parliament) and enthusiastic globetrotter (notoriously carrying a sleeping sack in his backpack while participating at scientific conferences). Within this hobby he has also became a recognized photographer who held twenty one photo-exhibitions and as a renowned scientist, he was invited to make photo-exhibitions at a number of international conferences Jaroslav ventured a curiosity not yet common within scientific circles when he illustrated his recent book “Heat, thermal analysis and society” by 60 full-page artistic photos.

Clare Wallace, M.A., Ph.D.

Dr. Clare Wallace teaches a variety of classes in the Liberal Arts Department at UNYP. She received her Ph.D. from Charles University, where she also continues to work as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English and American Studies. Dr. Wallace received her Master's degree from University College in Dublin. Dr. Wallace is very active in the academic community. She has organized numerous conferences, lecture series and colloquium in Prague. In addition, she is the managing editor of HJS (Hypermedia Joyce Studies), and also edits various other literary periodicals. Dr. Wallace was raised in Ireland, and has written several books and articles on Irish literature, Irish Studies, as well as on a variety of other topics. Currently, she is completing a book on 1990s drama and postmodernity. She is fluent in English, Czech, and French, and has a good knowledge of Irish.



Neela Winkelmann-Heyrovská, Mgr., Ph.D.

Dr. Neela Winkelmann-Heyrovská was born and raised in Prague. From student years, she was active in the environmental movement. She graduated from Charles University in 1992 with a degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics (Mgr., summa cum laude). She received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1997 from Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in New York, NY. She then lived in Germany and started working as a consultant in renewable energies. In 2004, she received the Czech Solar Prize and in 2005, the European Solar Prize for her contribution to the Czech support system for renewable energies. After moving back to Prague in 2005, she joined UNYP teaching Human Biology. She developed and has been teaching the Environmental Science course at UNYP since 2007. She worked as an assistant to Senator Martin Mejstík, former student leader of the “Velvet Revolution“, for three years. She publishes articles in the Czech press and runs a NGO called Nová energie.

doc. RNDr. Ondřej Zindulka, CSc.,

Dr. Ondřej Zindulka studied Pure Mathematical Analysis at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University in Prague, where he completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics. In 2004 he was appointed docent at University of West Bohemia. In 1993-1996 he was a Visiting Professor at University of California in Davis, since 1996 he teaches at Czech Technical University in Prague. He joined UNYP in 2001 and he teaches courses on mathematics and statistics. His main areas of research interest are Geometric and Topological Measure theory, Topology and Set Theory. He regularly participates at international mathematical conferences and publishes research papers.
