Dr. Webel delivers Key note address

Dr Webel, Professor and Director of the Peace, Conflict Resolution, and Environmental Studies program at UNYP, is giving a lecture entitled Toward a Philosophy and Metapsychology of Peace on Monday, September 15th in San Francisco. Dr Webel is an internationally recognized author on the subject of Peace and Conflict Resolution. In February 2009 the University of New York in Prague will launch Central Europe’s first degree programme in the field of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.  The programme is the first of its kind in a major European capital city and is only the third of its type globally. The program will feature lectures by other renowned experts such as Professor David Barash of the University of Washington, co-author of the book, Peace and Conflict Studies, which he wrote together with Dr. Webel. Also Dr. Neil Arya will lecture as part of the study programme. Dr. Arya is a faculty member at the University of Waterloo in Canada and Vice President of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. The latter institution won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985 for its work in promoting awareness of the devastating consequences of atomic warfare. The UNYP programme will initially be offered in two formats. One consists of a master’s degree programme currently in development. The other format focuses on special certificate programmes where conflict resolution studies will be taught in the context of specific global policy concerns, namely environmental issues and healthcare management.
