Outstanding performance for the UNYP debating teams

The Psychology department, now under the direction of Mike Johnson, well known to most students as their instructor from General Psychology, is happy to announce some new directions for the Psychology program in the future. In cooperation with Empire State College, which awards the psychology Bachelor of Arts degree, the department is in the process of restructuring the curriculum. Although this will have no immediate effect on students, in the future, the curriculum will be organized to allow students to choose between two "tracks" or specializations to help them maximize their learning experience. The first track will be for students who plan to pursue graduate degrees, which is a necessity for most careers involving the title "Psychologist". About 50% of our past graduates enrolled in Master's degree programs in various specializations in psychology and a further 20% in post-graduate study in related fields. The curriculum for this track will be similar to the current curriculum, since our students have been very successful in being accepted to prestigious universities around the world. A bigger change will involve creating a second, "Industrial/Work" track to better serve the needs of the roughly 30% of our students who plan to enter the workforce immediately after graduation. We based this decision on global market trends as well as feedback from former students, currently working as trainers, consultants, and project managers for top international companies like Oracle and DHL. This new track would take advantage of UNYP's strong business curriculum, and allow psychology majors to make more effective use of their electives in preparing for their future careers. For other students, this will also mean more psychology courses being offered relevant to business, communication and IEE students, who have expressed interest in more psychology electives as well. Look for details about these new tracks on the UNYP web site in the coming months.
