Swedish Ambassador Visits UNYP

On Tuesday the 10th November, UNYP was honored to welcome to a PulsE open lecture Her Excellency the Swedish Ambassador to the Czech Republic Ms. Catherine von Heidenstam. Ambassador von Heidenstam gave a presentation addressing the keys of the Swedish Presidency of the EU. In front of a very interested audience, the main challenges of both the Swedish presidency as well as the process of ratification were analyzed. Ambassador von Heidenstam shared with the audience the personal impressions of a diplomat who has needed to mediate between the government she is representing and the government of the only country that had not yet ratified the Lisbon Treaty. She described this task as challenging, and forecasts a very intense period of negotiations until the end of a presidency that must already be considered a success. In the round of questions and answers Ambassador von Heidenstam used all her diplomatic skills to respond to questions about the future of the EU, the possible expansion towards the East, the consequences of Lisbon and other issues relating to the Swedish Presidency of the EU.
