The UNYP Chinese Calligraphy (and Painting) EXHIBITION
The first UNYP Chinese Calligraphy (and Painting) Exhibition was a visual feast of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, a feast of knowledge where the audience listened to explanations given by each student of their work, and of course a culinary feast of Chinese Dim Sum (Dian Xin). The course was taught by Natasha Sutta who won prizes for her calligraphy in the Republic of China, and has been teaching Understanding China on the BBA weekend course. She plans to open a new course in the Spring Semester Mandarin Chinese, where students will learn to hold a simple conversation in Chinese, and about Chinese Culture and History. As part of the Calligraphy course students enjoyed the relaxing activity of writing Chinese Calligraphy, as well as learning the secrets and uses of the radical stroke order. Students also learnt how to look up Chinese words on the internet, and each student was required to find an academic article, which would help them to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese Calligraphy and the Chinese worldview. The results were presented at the Exhibition both visually and orally. Guests, included UNYP students, faculty and staff, and also the editor for the Czech magazine “Zena a Zivot”.
