UNYP Psychology and Academy of Science Open Lecture

Where’s Whorf?  In America?  In Prague?

Dr. James Boster of the University of Connecticut intends to find out.  In an open lecture co-sponsored by the UNYP Psychology Department and the Czech Academy of Sciences, Dr. Boster explained his current research, a cross cultural look at the relationship between thought and language, most recently involving words describing emotion and facial expressions of emotions.   He presented his results from around the globe, and is here to form research partnerships to include the Czech language in his growing database of results.  Although he didn’t provide a definitive answer on the long time controversy, his research certainly sparked the imagination and provided a new way of looking at the issues for UNYP students and faculty, as well as students and faculty from 3 other Czech Universities. A faculty lunch followed to discuss cooperation on the project here in the Czech Republic.
