The M.A. program in Clinical-Counseling Psychology now offered at the University of New York in Prague in cooperation with La Salle University (Philadelphia, U.S.A., www.lasalle.edu), is an intensive program of studies with a concentration in Psychological Counseling. The program stresses skill training and clinical preparation and is designed to thoroughly equip students with the necessary knowledge to
be effective professionals in the realm of mental health care.

The next program starts in Fall 2011.

La Salle’s Clinical-Counseling Psychology Program is intended for:

  • the student who wants a thorough grounding in the science and art of psychology;
  • the person already employed in clinical-counseling who needs higher level training to advance;
  • the person in associated fields who desires a lateral change into clinical-counseling psychology;
  • students who wish to prepare for licensure in the USA

The Program

This is a 48-credit program with duration of two years and courses are taught over weekends* by visiting faculty from La Salle University. The program has been designed to provide a sequential experience for each student. The progression in each instance is from knowledge base, to skill development, to application. There is an emphasis throughout the program on the integration of theory and practice. There is also an emphasis on a holistic perspective.

*UNYP provides light refreshments during the breaks to students on this program

Internship

Once students have a sound knowledge of psychological theory and appropriate skill training, they are placed in internship positions. The University of New York in Prague has established a reliable network with a number of recognized organizations and clinics prepared to accept students. Students need to accumulate 600 hours of supervised fieldwork in order to complete the program.

Professional Advancement Licensure

The program assists students in meeting the educational and practicum requirements for licensure as Professional Counselors in most US states, some states may require additional credits which can be obtained after completion of the degree from any accredited institution.
