International Students Helpdesk

The University of New York in Prague is a school of diversity and many nationalities. We are fully aware of the fact that arriving in a foreign country and getting used to a new environment can be very challenging. The International Student Helpdesk, part of the Student Affairs Office, is committed to helping international students settle in Prague. It helps them adjust to their new surroundings from the very beginning of their stay in the Czech Republic, and supports them thorough the whole period of their studies at UNYP.

We can help you with a wide range of issues and concerns that affect you during your stay in the Czech Republic, such as:

  • finding a suitable accommodation that responds to your budget and preferences
  • your visa registration at the Czech Foreign Police upon your arrival in the Czech Republic
  • renewing your student visas or residence permits:
    - reminding you of the dates of your visas expiry and deadlines for applying for their extensions, based on our updated   visa students database
    - providing you with a detailed information about the required documentation and procedures
    - making appointments at the Czech Interior Ministry departments for submitting your applications
    - checking the status of your application
  • arranging and prolonging your health insurance:
Your insurance contract should be arranged with an eligible provider of your own choice. Nevertheless, having considered the advantages of ONLINE arrangements, current health insurance RATES and available DISCOUNTS, we recommend that you arrange your insurance with the UNIQA INSURANCE by clicking HERE
  • arranging your public transport pass
  • the Czech language and dealing with the Czech authorities
  • welfare advice, costs of living, travel information etc.

As an international student, you will have to respect some rules given by the Czech legislation and follow specific procedures regarding your visas and residence permit in the Czech Republic.

There are basically 3 steps you must take into consideration:

1st step:  Visa/Residence address within 3 days upon your arrival to the Czech Republic
                   - Your first visit for visa registration will be to the Olsanska Headquarters no matter what part of Prague you reside in.
2nd step:  Reporting of  changes, including your address) at Interior Ministry Depts within 30 days
3rd step:  Extending your student long-stay visa -you apply and obtain a long-term residence permit.
Attention: The process of visa renewal should start at least 2 months, and not later than 15 days,  before your visa expires!

Please keep in mind that we are required by law to inform the Czech Ministry of Interior of your student status.
