The Central European Studies program takes place in one of the world's greatest open air museums: Prague. At the crossroads of Eastern and Western Europe, Prague's impeccably well-preserved architecture, spanning over a thousand years of medieval, baroque, and modern wonders, provides a breathtaking backdrop for the study of Central Europe's turbulent-yet-glorious history, and rapidly changing present.
The CES program has been specially designed for all with an interest in the diverse region of Central Europe. Candidates for the program comprise not only students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, but also members of the wider community with an interest in the area. It aims to provide students with a solid, contextual grounding in the history, politics and culture of the nations in the area, with particular emphasis on the Czech lands.
Interested applicants may include:
- those with a particular interest in Central European affairs
- those interested in Czech language and culture
- those seeking an engaging academic program in a beautiful cultural environment
- those currently living in the Czech Republic or Central Europe, who would like to gain a solid background in the history and current affairs of the region from expert instructors
All courses in the program meet the academic standards set by the University of New York in Prague. Students are expected to maintain these standards while enrolled in the Summer Program.
During the four week intensive program students may earn up to 6 fully transferable credits. Courses in the program focus on Central and Eastern European history, politics and culture, and include a rich variety of field trips and social activities. Students may also choose courses from the regular summer semester offerings for bachelor's degree students.
