LONG-TERM VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applying for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of study
Before submitting your application for the long term residence permit for study purposes in the Czech Republic, please read the following information carefully:
In general, applicants for the long-term residence permit for study purposes must submit their applications in person at the Embassy/Consulate in their country of origin or a country in which they have a residence permit.
The Embassy is entitled to request from foreign nationals to arrange the term for submitting their applications in advance. The applicant is obliged to undergo an interview if the Embassy asks her/him to do so.
All the supporting documents must be submitted in original or as certified photocopies. Documents in languages other than Czech must be officially translated into the Czech language.None of the documents should be older than 180 days.
Required documentation:
· Application form (green form) - completed and signed residence permit application form, together with two passport sized photographs.
· Travel document - Travel document (passport) valid for at least 90 days after the proposed end of stay in the Czech Republic.
· Evidence of the purpose of stay - Letter of acceptance from the school/university in the Czech Republic.
You have to provide the consent of your parent or another legal representative or guardian with your stay in the Czech Republic if you are a minor.
· Evidence of sufficient funds - a bank account in your name or original Credit Card Statements
· Confirmation of accommodation - a document confirming the availability of accommodation for the required period of stay in the Czech Republic
· Health/Medical Insurance contract - for an amount of at least 60.000 EUR,covering the cost of necessary & immediate health care. According to the new law that has been in force since 1-1-2011, it is not necessary to have a contract concluded with a Czech insurance company (as before), but you will be required to submit a notarized Czech translation of your insurance contract and its general conditions. Upon request you are also obliged to submit a proof that you have paid the insurance premium for the entire period of requested stay).
The Health/Medical Insurance contract is presented before affixing the residence permit/visa to the applicant’s passport.
· Criminal Record Clearance - Evidence that the applicant has no record in the Criminal Register of the country that issued her/his passport and any other country/countries where s/he has resided during the last 3 years for more than 6 months.
It is the Ministry of the Interior that decides on granting a long-term visas/residence permits according to the latest changes in the Czech Aliens Act (in force since January 2011). The application is usually processed within 60 days, but it can take up to 90 days.
In case of denying the application, the Ministry will inform you in writing about the reasons for non-granting the visa/long-term residence permit. You are entitled to request new assessment of reasons for non-granting the long-term visa/residence permit within 15 days upon the delivery of the relevant information.
In the case of the visa denial, the tuition fee (excluding bank charges) is refunded based on the official document issued by the embassy. Students must inform the Admission Office as soon as they receive the final status of their visa application. If no official letter of refusal is received from the embassy, please inform us where you applied for the visa.
Please note:
The University of New York in Prague is obliged by law to report to the Czech Ministry of the Interior any international student granted a visa/long/term residence permit who does not commence their studies on the stipulated start date of their study program.
