Dr. Sheila Marie Aird is the European Director of International Programs for SUNY, Empire State University and an Associate Professor. Dr. Aird is responsible for the American degree programs at the college’s four international locations in Athens and Thessaloniki Greece, Tirana, Albania and Prague, Czech Republic. Dr. Aird is also a standing board member of the Image Initiative Inc., an organization that works to empower young African Diaspora and Latina young woman in the Syracuse NY school district. She received her Ph.D. in Latin and Caribbean History and MA in History from Howard University. During her final year of research at Howard University, she was awarded the prestigious Sasakawa Fellowship from the Nippon Foundation in Japan. Aird holds a BA in Anthropology and a MA in Anthropology with a focus on Historical Archeology from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Her area of interest and research include colonial enslavement, issues of race that impact the African Diaspora community, Digital Storytelling, Public History and pop culture.
