Alumni of the Year to continue as important UNYP tradition

The University of New York in Prague’s 20th Anniversary celebration is very special in itself, however there was one moment during the Gala evening, which brought a new important tradition to life. For the first time ever, UNYP officially announced the winner of the Alumni of the Year Award. The Alumni of the Year Award will serve as a means of rewarding one alumnus or alumna for their successes and achievements in giving back to the community, pursuing their chosen career, their service to the university or any other outstanding accomplishment.

The historically first recipient, Tomáš Kubica, class of 2007, was nominated for his professional achievements, providing support to students and generally contributing to UNYP’s good reputation. Tomáš has had an inspirational career path since leaving UNYP with positions at McKinsey & Co, Goldman Sachs and currently KKR, across Prague, London, and now Silicon Valley. He has continued to stay part of the UNYP community by serving on the first ever Business Department Advisory board from 2015-2017, preparing a comprehensive report with recommendations for growth and improvement at UNYP, and mentoring a number of students and graduates over the years.

“It’s great to reconnect with the University and community. I realize how grateful we can be to have this community of alumni and these friendships and remain connected to UNYP and that UNYP still cares about us,” says Tomáš Kubica as he accepted his award.

From this year forward, the Alumni of the Year Award will be presented annually using a system of community nominations. Each member of the UNYP community can nominate an alumnus or an alumna who has graduated from UNYP or a partner university program taught at UNYP. The TOP 5 candidates and the winner are then selected by the Award Committee consisting of 9 representatives from all parts of the university.
