\u201cEveryday you\u2019re exposed to so much information and data, you need to know how to process it quickly to make the right decisions. That\u2019s something I learned at UNYP,\u201d Ji\u0159\u00ed S\u00fdkora says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As an investment manager at PPF, the Czech Republic\u2019s largest private equity firm, Ji\u0159\u00ed spends much of his time analyzing and evaluating multiple real estate investments. PPF has an extensive portfolio in Europe and Russia, and Ji\u0159\u00ed, who has been an employee there since 2015, focuses on acquisitions in Western and Central Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Ji\u0159\u00ed didn\u2019t start in real estate. Four years ago, after graduating from University of New York in Prague and getting a master\u2019s degree from CERGE-EG, he landed a job as a business analyst at the global firm Arthur D. Little. It was there that some of his UNYP experience came in handy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His new job required him to work mainly in the Balkans and Middle East providing advice to large companies on their infrastructure investments. Working on such international projects, Ji\u0159\u00ed came face-to-face with a very different business culture. Luckily UNYP was able to prepare him. \u201cI already knew some of the basics of doing business in the Middle East because of taking a class at UNYP,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This wasn\u2019t the only time this international experience was helpful in his career. During his time at Arthur D. Little, Ji\u0159\u00ed got the opportunity to go to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia for two months, where he was able to apply more of what he learned from international students during his studies. \u201cThe whole approach to business is different,\u201d he says. \u201cI think it\u2019s more about relationships. Business negotiations are usually done over a cup of tea. It\u2019s expected to ask them about their lives and their families. In Europe, it\u2019s more focused purely on business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a year and a half of consulting, Ji\u0159\u00ed decided he wanted to create something instead of going from one company to another. In 2015, he joined PPF and after a year of working as an investment analyst he was promoted to his current position. Now, in addition to leading valuations and managing acquisitions, he helps manage the company\u2019s portfolio, which includes 2 billion euros in commercial real estate around the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
University of New York in Prague\u2019s diverse international student body and emphasis on general education were key ingredients to his success, Ji\u0159\u00ed says. During his time as a UNYP student, he took as many classes as he could, and changed his focus multiple times. He participated in student competitions, one of which led to his first job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
