Marek gained his PhD at the University of Economics in Prague where he also taught until 2013. From 2013 to 2016 he was a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Theoretical Study at the Charles University in Prague. After completing his post-doctoral fellowship, he spent three years at the International Business School Suzhou at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in China. Marek also held visiting positions at several renowned universities in China, Italy and Germany. Between 2012 and 2013, he also worked for the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic.

Marek has scholarly published articles in the Journal of Institutional Economics, International Journal of Game Theory, or History of Political Economy, among others. He has also published numerous journal articles, presented at summer schools and conferences, and delivered public lectures. He translated one book. His current research focuses on individual and strategic decision making, institutional and organizational economics and the history and philosophy of economics.
