7 lunch spots around UNYP to keep you full all day

Being a student in Prague means that you get to go to school and eat out in one of the world’s greatest cities. Prague’s food scene is of sufficient size, diversity, and quality to satisfy almost anyone – whether you are a UNYP fresher, a graduate working on your Master’s thesis, or applying for jobs. Depending on your mood and timing, you can cook at home and bring your lunch box to school, have your lunch delivered to UNYP, or eat out. Luckily, most of the restaurants here offer affordable lunch specials, which are much more budget-friendly than ordering a la carte. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in Vinohrady where you can go out for dinner with friends, grab a quick lunch, indulge in a delicious dessert, or sit down for a coffee and study session. And if you get bored with the offerings around Londýnská, you can always hop on a tram or bus and ride a few stops to Vršovice or Žižkov, and come back in no time for your next class.

UNYP is located in Vinohrady, the heart of Prague’s gastronomic district.

Madame Lyn

Next time you’re craving glass noodles or spring rolls, head to Madame Lyn to get your fix. The Vietnamese food here is excellent, and it’s also ridiculously close to our campus. And if that craving hits after school, Madame Lyn is open to 10 pm seven days a week, and could be an excellent spot for a dinner date.

Napoké

Luckily for you, the Czech capital has seen a poke boom over the past two years. There are many places around town where you can get a fresh bowl of chopped raw fish over rice, but our go-to is Napoké. You can create a custom bowl with tofu or another protein, five basic ingredients, and the topping of your choice.

Dish

Without question, the best burgers in the neighborhood, from the classic Dish burger to the fancy Koza Nostra burger with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, arugula, and fig mayonnaise. Dish has two locations, both within walking distance from UNYP: the small location on Římská, and the larger one on Belgická, the same street as the UNYP student apartments.

Vinohradský Parlament

So you’ve decided to venture off-campus for lunch, but you want roast chicken and mashed potatoes, your friend wants a steak, and your roommate is not hungry and just wants a little something sweet. Everyone can get what they want at Vinohradský parlament, which might be the best Czech restaurant at Náměstí Míru. If the line is long, relax; there are two floors and an outside area, and turnover is usually pretty fast.

Miska Ramen

The ramen is worth the crazy wait in the evening, but the key is to show up early for lunch. Miska Ramen offers Japanese ramen noodles prepared by a team of Asian cuisine enthusiasts, who learned their trade at the Miyajima Ramen School in Osaka. You can enjoy their high-quality ramen in a small and minimalistic space that makes you forget you’re in Prague.

Cafe Sladkovský

Do you like babaganoush? What about falafel? If so, get yourself to Cafe Sladkovský, where you will find some of the best Middle Eastern food near our campus. As well as the hearty weekday lunches, it’s also one of the best spots to go for tapas after a long day of lectures – make a table reservation for a big group dinner.

Las Adelitas

Prague’s first Las Adelitas opened eleven years ago on Americká, just a few blocks away from UNYP, and you can now enjoy their authentic Mexican cuisine in four different locations around the city. Their lunch menu changes every week, and you can pair a burrito or tacos with soup, salad, and a soft drink. A perfect lunch spot for spice lovers!
