Career options for UNYP’s new Child Development Program

The human mind has been a popular subject of research since ancient times. It is common knowledge that childhood development has a strong influence on one’s personality and behavior in adulthood. The University of New York in Prague has decided to create a new program for students who want to pursue a career in which they can work with children and families. Workers in this field can help a whole generation of children to grow into productive adults, which is why some people say that it is more of a vocation than a job. We would like to highlight some of the career paths which a Psychology graduate with a concentration in Child Development can follow.

School Counselor  

Counseling is an underrated service that most schools provide for their students. School counselors can help pupils, students, and parents overcome many obstacles in childhood and adolescence. This is an important job that can prevent depression and anxiety, and a student with good mental health is more likely to thrive at school and in life. At UNYP, we have our own Counseling Center that helps students and the wider UNYP community with any mental health issues that they have regarding university studies.

A foundation in Child Development is a stepping stone to many educational leadership positions. It can bring you closer to your pupils and help you really understand their needs, fostering a thriving learning environment. There are many leadership opportunities in education, such as headteacher or policymaker.  

Lawyer  

Believe it or not, a foundation in Child Development can benefit you in your legal career, especially if you intend to focus on family law, an area that focuses on legal relationships within families. A child can face many stressful legal situations such as parental divorce, child custody disputes, adoption, and foster care. As a family law attorney, you will benefit from your child development knowledge.  

Nurse  

With their developing personalities, children are often under a significant amount of stress in hospital – especially if they are suffering from a chronic illness, or about to undergo complicated procedures or surgery. Nurses play a crucial role in the hospital experience, and with an education in Child Development, they can be more empathetic towards young patients. Helping children to cope with their treatment can be a factor in their convalescence.  

A child can face many difficult obstacles while growing up. In order to raise a healthy future generation, we need to give children as much support as possible. Our career selections demonstrate that a degree in Child Development can put you onto many different paths, as well as showing the versatility of a degree in Psychology. At UNYP, we closely analyze the needs of the market, which is why we have made the decision to launch this program together with two other new bachelor’s programs in Political Science and Digital Media Arts.
