The Czech Republic – the 8th most peaceful country in the world!

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, personal safety has been a widely-discussed topic in world news. The global health crisis has developed rapidly since the start of the year, with governments and societies taking dramatic actions and making far-reaching changes. As the situation forces millions of students to reconsider their Study Abroad plans, it looks like the year 2020 has changed students’ attitudes towards their education, and their choice of a country and university in which to study. Personal safety is becoming one of the top factors that young people consider when looking for a Study Abroad program

Your parents are more likely to get on board with the idea of university study abroad if you can reassure them that you plan to study in a safe destination with a stable political system and a low risk of infection. Feeling safe and secure will improve your academic performance and give you the confidence and energy to push your studies to the next level. When you plan to relocate thousands of kilometers away from home to pursue your university program, your family needs to be sure that you will be safe. Fortunately, the Czech Republic has again proved to be one of the most peaceful destinations for international students.

This year’s research on the Global Peace Index by the Institute for Economics and Peace showed a severe decline in global peace levels. However, despite the challenges that Covid-19 has brought to the European region, the Czech Republic has stayed strong and shows impressive results compared to many neighboring countries. The country jumped two places compared to last year, landing 8th out of 163 countries on the GPI list.

The Global Peace Index report is a sophisticated analysis of numerous factors that are considered crucial to a country’s stability and security. “The 2020 GPI reveals a world in which the conflicts and crises that emerged in the past decade have begun to abate, only to be replaced with a new wave of tension and uncertainty as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.” The situation that we find ourselves in is genuinely troubling, yet hope remains that the rest of the world will emulate the actions of the governments of the countries that top this list.

The Czech Republic: a proven safe destination for Study Abroad students

Relocating to one of the most peaceful places in the world doesn’t mean that you should stop being self-aware and take sensible precautions. The Czech Republic is a relatively small country with a fast-growing economy, and many higher education establishments. While you may not speak Czech, the University of New York in Prague offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, that are all taught entirely in English. UNYP’s partnership with the State University of New York, Empire State College, means that students from the US can transfer without losing credit. Students from other countries can do the same, provided that their previous studies took place at an accredited university.

With the capital city of Prague rated as one of the most beautiful and safest cities in the world, the Czech Republic is a perfect place to study abroad during these unpredictable times. The Czech Republic’s safe communities and low crime rates have kept the country at the top of the Global Peace Index list for years, an achievement that was boosted this year by the urgent and effective response to the pandemic from the Czech government and society. This response was undoubtedly helped by the efficient state-run Czech healthcare insurance system, which is relatively inexpensive and provides almost universal coverage.

With growing international communities and a high demand for qualified professionals in areas such as MarketingBusiness AdministrationCommunications & Media, and IT Management, it’s easy to see why so many students choose the Czech Republic as their Study Abroad destination. Many UNYP students manage to land a great job offer in the Czech Republic or internationally before they have even finished their program of study. UNYP degrees are recognized worldwide, and will provide you with an excellent foundation for your future career anywhere in the world.
