Good Bye letter

Evelyn Hall Wells, Professor Emeritus, Social Policy

Director of Academic Programs, Empire State College, State University of New York

As some of you already know, I will be retiring as of the end of the 2014-15 academic year after 14 memorable years of teaching and administration with International Programs, Empire State College, State University of New York, Academic Program Director for Prague and European Regional Director.

I wish to thank each of you for giving me the opportunity to work with you and to learn from you during my tenure here. As students, you have taught me so much about intercultural relations and global education while sharing with me your scholastic achievements, dreams and ambitions. Most of all, you shared your bright smiles and joy of learning while exploring your own ideas and assumptions.

To the faculty, staff and administration, your support and dedication to making all this work has helped us to ensure academic excellence in meeting the needs of our students. I shall miss each of you and thank you for making my journey here such a memorable and rewarding one. When we asked, you never said no, working as a remarkable, committed team.

As I take my leave, ending a 40 year career with the university, I would like to think that a part of what I have contributed will remain for others to build and expand on.  As the way in which we think about education changes, so will how we respond and react with new ideas shaped by the wisdom of our past.

Effective August 1st, Dr. Karolyn Andrews will take up residence in the ESC office as the new Director for European Programs. Dr. Andrews spent several years here in Prague before taking a position with ESC as the Director for our Athens and Lebanon programs where she has spent the last 7 years. Please be sure to stop by the office to welcome her.

As we travel the world, I know that our paths will cross again. Thank you so much for your friendship and your support. I wish you continued success.
