How can your university prepare you for future employment?

We often hear business leaders and analytics express disappointment about the unfortunate gap between what students learn at higher education establishments and what they are expected to know to be job-ready. In an age of unpredictable changes and constant evolution in the job market, it is hard to argue that the traditional knowledge acquired during a university degree is still relevant. A degree from the University of New York in Prague is valuable because its professors spend more time teaching critical soft skills. In a recent LinkedIn exclusive data analysis, the company’s research team determined the skills that employers all over the world need most in 2019. The growing impact of Artificial Intelligence explains the increasing importance of soft skills, with a clear advantage for candidates who can perform tasks that computers cannot.

The soft skills employers need most in 2019

Creativity

People often have a misconception that creativity is something strictly reserved for artists, but science and politics require creativity to solve problems when the old solutions no longer work. Creativity is the mental capacity to generate new and useful ideas, which is why it is essential across all spheres, from Business Administration to International Relations. UNYP’s students and professors come from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds, creating a community which fosters creativity and offers a range of perspectives.

Persuasion

After graduation, you might become a brand manager and work in marketing, or join the sales division of a large corporation, or even run a startup. All of these scenarios require exceptional persuasion skills – after all, having a great product or a concept means nothing if you can’t persuade your target market to buy it! All UNYP programs offer elective courses where students can take a variety of cross-disciplinary classes such as Intro to Communications or Social Psychology to learn different communication techniques and master the art of persuasion.

Collaboration

Companies of all sizes prefer dealing with team players. Even if you choose to be a freelancer, you will have to work with groups of people frequently, if not daily. More importantly, in 2019 you need to have experience of work in a multicultural environment. Luckily, UNYP covers that aspect for you too. From day one, our students will learn and live in an international community of academics and students from over 60 countries. All our programs have practical group assignments, and our course instructors use active learning strategies that require all students to participate.

Adaptability

Increasing numbers of employers see flexibility as an essential work skill. The workplace has changed over the past decade, and employees are expected to rapidly change focus from one priority to another. Getting out from your comfort zone and studying abroad or choosing to receive your degree in a foreign language immediately demonstrates your adaptability to future employers.

Time Management

Mastering time management during your student years will serve you for the rest of your professional life. By participating in one of the student clubs, becoming a member of UNYP Student Council, volunteering at TEDxUNYP project, or joining the Blazers sports team, you will learn to maximize the efficient use of your time to achieve academic success. And remember, extracurricular activities always look good in your resume!
