Thanksgiving in Prague

Studying abroad doesn’t have to mean missing out on your favorite holidays, and Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to bring together your new friends to share in a traditional feast! Whether you’re looking to recreate your favorite holiday, or you’re just in it for the football and turkey, Prague has everything you need to create your own Thanksgiving experience.

BUY YOUR TURKEY

First things first, you’ll need a turkey. In the lead-up to Thanksgiving, plump turkeys can be found at the poultry stand at the Jiřákfarmers market (Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad 6), and most supermarket chains stock frozen turkeys, but many seasoned expats swear that the best quality Czech birds come fromRobertson. Be sure to order early before they sell out, and take advantage of their delivery option to avoid schlepping home a giant turkey!

ALL THE TRIMMINGS

By now you’ve probably heard about Prague’s hub of American and British treats, but did you know The Candy Store (Londýnská 309/81) also sells cranberry sauce, boxes of stuffing and cans of pumpkin? If you’re still in need of ingredients, Marks & Spencer (various locations) also stocks turkey breasts, Brussels sprouts, mini marshmallows, spices and other bits and pieces to complete your meal.

LET SOMEONE ELSE DO THE COOKING

No oven? No worries. Expat favorite, Jama Pub (V Jámě 1671/7), has been serving their Thanksgiving dinners for 21 years, reservations are essential for their three course feast, but the delicious turkey, fixings and NFL on the big screens make it worth the planning. Across town another favorite is the feast at Holešovice’s

Bohemia Bagel (Dukelských hrdinů 906/48), which includes roast turkey, gravy, stuffing, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, pumpkin pie… and more.

Culinaria (Skořepka 423/9) in Old Town is offering their cooked thanksgiving menu to take home. And for a real splurge the Hilton Hotel’s Zinc Restaurant (V Celnici 2079/7) thanksgiving buffet is available to enjoy in their stylish restaurant, or as a take-away to feast upon at home.

AND THEN FOR SOME FOOTBALL

As we mentioned above, Jama is showing the game during their Thanksgiving Dinner, but if Turkey’s not your thing then Expats BBQ Bar (Vojtěšská 241/9) shows all the NFL games, and you can even reserve a table online.
