University of New York in Prague (UNYP) is proud to announce that the Czech Ministry of Education has granted the accreditation for their newest master’s program in Psychology.

UNYP is one of the leading English language higher education institutions in Central Eastern Europe and is now the only private university in the Czech Republic which provides a comprehensive education in the field of psychology, the only program in the Czech Republic to offer psychology education in English and one of only two universities in Prague to offer such a program in the field of psychology. Graduates of the program strengthen their theoretical foundation in several areas of psychology while gaining professional competencies through practical application primarily through three semesters of supervised internship placements that will allow them to work as independent psychologists or join subsequent specialization trainings or postgraduate studies.

In most countries, a master’s level degree is required in order to work professionally as a psychologist. A program – like the one offered by UNYP – that includes supervised internship training is particularly appealing providing graduates with additional qualifications, potential employers, as well as a potential client base.

The UNYP psychology program provides students with a comprehensive overview on the master’s level of the most extensive psychological issues encountered in the field. The program is based on theoretical subjects at an advanced level (e.g., current topics of personality psychology and developmental psychology), which provide the foundation for consecutive applied disciplines (clinical psychology and health psychology, school and educational psychology, personnel psychology). An integral part of the studies is supervised experience and internships that provide graduates with the possibility of practical examination and use of acquired knowledge and skills. Additionally, an essential part of this program is preparation for independent scientific activities and opportunities for additional scientific expertise. This study program challenges students both through theoretical preparation and realization of practice and scientific projects. The study program is designed to be in compliance with the international requirements for the European Diploma in Psychology for a master’s degree in psychology. The program is taught by leading experts in the field of psychology from the Czech Republic, the USA and other countries as well, such as Edel Sanders, PhD Candidate in Education & Psychology at the University of Cambridge, Dr. Julia Shaw, Ed. D. in Human Development & Psychology from Harvard University, Docent Marek Preiss, Head of Clinical Psychology at the National Institute of Mental Health, Docent Radek Ptáček, Head of Department of Education at the Czech Medical Chamber and Dr. Filip Smolik of the Czech Academy of Science.

Edel Sanders, Chair of the Psychology Department at the University of New York in Prague noted that, “the accreditation of this program is a natural outgrowth from the recent expansions and increasing scholarly ethos being developed at UNYP and I am pleased to be part of such a dynamic team at the University.”  The Psychology Department has recently made several notable advancements which include the annual student-led research conferences, the new research center (Center for Advanced Behavioral Research) and UNYP’s jointly run peer-reviewed research journal (Psychology Observer). Sanders added, “The friendly atmosphere at UNYP balances the rigorous academic challenges of the Psychology Department at the University, and I am delighted as well to welcome Docent Radek Ptáček as the Director of UNYP’s new master’s program in Psychology.”
