UNYP BA students won the Czech Republic round of the CFA Institute Investment Research Challenge competition

A team of our Business Administration students won the Czech Republic round of the CFA Institute Investment Research Challenge competition. The students in the team are: Jiří Sýkora (American BS), Anna Richtrová (European BBA), Petr Rieger American BS), Martin Konop (American BS) and Radek Musil (European BBA).  The team will be officially awarded during the CFA Society Forecasting Dinner 2013 that will be held under the auspices of Czech National Bank Governor – Miroslav Singer – on 28th February in the Congress Center of CNB.

The CFA Institute, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, is a global professional association of financial analysts, and runs the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) exam program. There are two CFA charter holders in the UNYP faculty: Tanweer Ali & Aaron Johnson.

The Investment Research Challenge is a student competition, with universities all over the world participating. Teams are required to produce an equity research report on a designated company, and to present their work to a panel of judges. Each participating university has a faculty liaison (Tanweer Ali for UNYP), and teams are allocated a mentor – usually a practicing financial professional – with a view to providing coaching in financial analysis. In the Czech Republic the competition is administered by the CFA Society Czech Republic, the local chapter of the CFA Institute, and has been run since 2010. UNYP teams have participated in the 2011 and 2012 competitions, but this is the first year in which we have won the competition.

This result is particularly impressive since many of the other teams were from masters programs at the most prestigious institutions in the country. For instance, the UNYP team defeated students from masters programs at the University of Economics, Charles University or CERGE-EI. The winning team will now take part in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) regional round of the competition in London on 10/11th April, and if successful in the global round held immediately on 12th April.

We wish our UNYP team the best of luck in London!
