UNYP welcomed the Summit Global Education Program

While many students take the summer to take a much needed break from their studies to relax or travel the world, this group of 22 students from the US, India and Hong Kong earned academic credits while exploring the world as part of the European Summit Global Education Summer Program.

The 7.5 week long program takes participants through beautiful European cities like Barcelona, Paris, London, Berlin, Vienna and Budapest, pausing in each city to take in lectures, visit relevant organizations and immerse themselves in the local culture. As a partner university in the program, UNYP hosted the students for a full two weeks, during this time the students attended guest lectures and visited key local businesses, such as Škoda Auto, and Pilsner Urquell in Pilsen. Participants also enjoyed plenty of free time to take in the local sites, and to ensure they took full advantage of the experience as possible, they were encouraged to get to know the locals. “Outside the classroom every student had to interview at least three local people in each city we visit” said Brian Butler, the program’s founder.

According to Butler, who created the program in 2012, “Traveling is an integral part of the experience, when you travel and go somewhere new, you notice all the details and your mind becomes more open.” Summit program participants enroll in two courses which have been selected based on the content and travel schedule. Students select from International Business, Cross Cultural Management and Communication, Global Studies and Introduction to the European Union, and earn up to 6 credits, which are transferred back to their home university through the school of record after completion of the program.

This is the first year the Summit program has included a stop in Prague, and Butler says UNYP was selected as a partner university thanks to its strong reputation, and support during the credit transferring process.
