“European Union: Challenges and Perspectives - The Greek View”

H.E. Ambassador Efthymios Efthymiades

Ambassador Efthymiades is a career diplomat. He joined the Greek Foreign Ministry in 1990.
Subsequently he has been on several occasions appointed to posts related to EU affairs: Assistant to the Greek Permanent Representative to the EU (1997-2000), Head of the EU Enlargement Team at the Greek Foreign Ministry (2000-2003), Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Greece in Berlin (2008-2011), Director of EU External Relations at the Greek Foreign Ministry (2014-2016); he has prepared and participated in numerous EU meetings at Senior Offficials', Ministerial and Heads of State and/or Government level.
He has also served in North America (Congress Liaison at the Embassy of Greece in Washington, 1992-1995, and Consul-General of Greece in Toronto, 2003-2008).
He was elected and served as Dean of the Consular Corps of Toronto (2008).
Ambassador Efthymiades studied Law in Athens and is a licensed lawyer. Besides his native language, he is fluent in English, French and German.
As of July 2016 he has been serving as the Greek Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
