Last week, the University of New York in Prague (UNYP), in collaboration with the Czech Olympic Team, hosted a seminar focused on the psychology of high performance under pressure.
The seminar brought together athletes, coaches, students, and mental performance professionals to examine how psychological resilience can be developed. They also considered how it can be effectively applied in high-stakes competitive environments. Moreover, UNYP was honored to welcome Olympic champion Kateřina Neumannová. UNYP also welcomed UNYP student-athletes Jakub Hroneš and Filip Sakala. Their presence enriched the discussion with real-world athletic perspectives.
The session featured Adam Šíma, UNYP professor, psychologist, and mental coach. He presented practical strategies for maintaining focus, emotional control, and mental balance in demanding competitive settings. In addition, his applied approach was complemented by Iva Linda Maruščáková, UNYP professor. She provided academic insights into sports psychology and emphasized the importance of mental preparedness as an essential counterpart to physical training.
This seminar forms part of the ongoing collaboration between UNYP and the Czech Olympic Committee. It is aimed at supporting athletes in both their sporting and academic careers. Furthermore, the event highlighted the value of a holistic approach to performance. This approach places mental health, psychological resilience, and evidence-based tools at the core of long-term athletic success.
