Students from the University of New York in Prague (UNYP) are actively giving back to the local community by volunteering at Škola Zrak, a specialised school for visually impaired children in Prague. Through this initiative, UNYP students support inclusive education while gaining valuable hands-on experience beyond the classroom.
As part of their volunteering activities, UNYP students help children practice English using games, creative exercises, and interactive activities. These sessions focus on building vocabulary, confidence, and communication skills in a supportive and engaging environment. By adapting their teaching methods to the needs of visually impaired learners, students learn how to communicate clearly, patiently, and effectively.
The volunteering programme attracts students from various academic backgrounds, including psychology, communication, and social sciences. It allows them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations, develop empathy, and strengthen interpersonal skills. Working directly with children also helps students better understand inclusive education and the importance of accessibility in learning environments.
UNYP places strong emphasis on community engagement and social responsibility. Volunteering at Škola Zrak reflects the university’s commitment to supporting local initiatives and promoting inclusion. By collaborating with organisations that work with disadvantaged groups, UNYP encourages students to become socially aware and engaged global citizens.
For many students, volunteering at Škola Zrak is a meaningful and rewarding experience that leaves a lasting impact. It not only benefits the children involved but also helps students grow personally and professionally. Initiatives like this demonstrate how UNYP connects academic study with real-world impact, empowering students to make a positive difference in their community.
