Student Conduct, Academic Integrity, and Safety Rules

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Academic integrity is a fundamental principle of all university programs. Cheating, plagiarism, forgery, or the fabrication of data or information constitute serious violations of academic standards. Such conduct may affect a student’s continued participation in a UNYP program.

All UNYP students are required to comply with the academic rules and regulations outlined below. Violations of the Academic Honesty Policy may result in serious penalties, including possible dismissal from the university.

Students who have questions regarding this policy should consult a Dean of School or an academic advisor.

ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY

The UNYP community expects students to act with integrity at all times. Students must not give or receive unauthorized assistance on any assessed (graded) work. They must not seek an unfair academic advantage for themselves or others, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Examples of unauthorized assistance and unfair academic advantage include, but are not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, submitting purchased work, dishonest conduct, and unauthorized collaboration.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Copying, measuring, or reproducing all or part of another person’s essay, assignment, paper, or project.
  • Copying material from the internet without proper citation.
  • Reproducing passages from books or other texts without appropriate references, citations, or quotation marks.
  • Presenting material from any source as one’s own work.

Students must clearly distinguish their own ideas, opinions, and knowledge from those derived from other sources. The term sources includes published materials, online content, and information or opinions obtained directly from other individuals.

Cheating

Cheating includes, but is not limited to, the following actions:

  • Using notes, texts, or other unauthorized aids during tests or assessed work.
  • Using “cheat sheets” (tahák) or other printed materials during an examination.
  • Copying answers from another student during a test.
  • Providing answers to another student during a test, whether verbally, in writing, or through hand signals.
  • Distributing test questions to other students before an examination.
  • Intimidating another student to obtain answers before or during a test.
  • Using a mobile phone or electronic device to communicate information during an examination, including SMS messages.

STUDENT CONDUCT RULES

Students are expected to behave in a mature, responsible, and professional manner. This applies to interactions with fellow students, instructors, staff, and all members of the UNYP community. It also applies to interactions with external individuals or organizations when acting as a UNYP student, including during coursework and academic activities.

Any incident involving a violation of conduct rules must be reported by UNYP staff or faculty to the Rector using the Report of Disciplinary/Conduct Problems form.

Violations of conduct rules may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or dismissal from UNYP.

Conduct Rules

  • Violent behavior, threats, disruptive conduct, and abusive or disrespectful language are not tolerated.
  • Harassment of any kind, including sexual, racial, national origin, or religious harassment, is strictly prohibited and may result in dismissal. Students who experience harassment should contact the UNYP Affirmative Action Officer.
  • Smoking is prohibited inside all UNYP-operated buildings.
  • Alcohol, illegal drugs, and dangerous substances are not permitted in UNYP buildings. Students may not attend UNYP classes or events under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Students are responsible for their personal belongings and should not leave them unattended. Found items must be delivered immediately to the receptionist at Londýnská 41 or Belgická 40. UNYP is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
  • Students are responsible for any damage they cause, directly or indirectly, to UNYP property.
  • Any health-related incident, including minor injuries, occurring in UNYP facilities or at UNYP events must be reported to staff or faculty.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAFETY AND FIRE PROTECTION

Work Safety

Ensuring the safety and health of all individuals on university premises is a fundamental responsibility of the university.

Student Obligations

Students must protect their own health and the health of others. They must behave in a manner that prevents injury or harm. This includes exercising caution when moving through university buildings, avoiding running on stairs or in corridors, and handling objects carefully.

Alcohol and addictive substances are strictly prohibited in university buildings. Students may not attend classes or university events while under the influence of such substances.

It is not permitted to enter technical areas of the university, including switchboards, heat exchange stations, or air-conditioning machine rooms.

All students must follow instructions issued by teachers and university staff, particularly those related to safety and fire protection.

Behavior that endangers health or property is strictly prohibited. Weapons, ammunition, explosives, or similar items may not be brought into university buildings or events.

Any health issues or injuries occurring during classes or university events must be reported to instructors immediately.

University equipment, furniture, and electrical appliances may only be used in accordance with manufacturer instructions and applicable regulations. Required personal protective equipment must be used when specified.

Students must maintain cleanliness and order within university buildings. Corridors and stairways must not be blocked. Escape routes, fire extinguishers, hydrants, and electrical switchboards must remain accessible at all times. Unauthorized electrical or heating appliances are not permitted.

Students may not interfere with electrical, gas, or technical equipment unless expressly instructed to do so by a teacher.

When handling chemical substances, students must follow all safety instructions. Eating, drinking, smoking, or using open flames while handling chemicals is prohibited. Cleaning products must be stored in designated areas and properly labeled.

Fire Protection

All individuals must act in a manner that prevents fires and protects life, health, property, and the environment. Thermal, electrical, and gas appliances must be used responsibly. Increased caution is required when handling flammable or combustible substances or when working with open flames.

In the event of a fire or accident, individuals must assist emergency services when possible and comply with all safety instructions. Fire protection equipment, including extinguishers and hydrants, must not be misused or damaged. Smoking bans and open-flame restrictions must be strictly observed.

Drying clothes or materials on heaters is prohibited. All students must comply with fire alarm regulations, evacuation plans, and university directives.

Behavior During a Fire

In the event of a fire, individuals must immediately warn others by shouting “FIRE.” If safe to do so, they should attempt to extinguish the initial fire and remove flammable materials from the area.

When a fire alarm sounds, all persons must evacuate the affected area calmly and immediately. Stairs must be used; elevators must not be used for evacuation.

The fire brigade must be contacted immediately by calling 150 or 112. The Fire Call Centre must also be informed via the university reception at 224 216 661.

Use of Fire Extinguishers

Before using a fire extinguisher, assess the risk of electric shock. Electrical equipment must never be extinguished with water or water-based extinguishers. Powder or CO₂ extinguishers may be used for most types of fires, including electrical fires. CO₂ extinguishers are also suitable for paper and solid materials. Always follow the instructions provided on the extinguisher.

Knowledge of workplace safety and fire protection is essential not only during your studies, but also throughout your life. It helps protect your health and safety, as well as the safety of others.
