UNYP Announces Call for Papers for International Conference on Platform Work in Europe

The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) invites researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts for the upcoming international conference, “Mapping the Transformation: Platform Work and the Shifting Labour Landscape in Europe,” to be held on June 30, 2026.

Hosted in a hybrid format, the conference will be held both on-site in Prague and online, bringing together academic and professional perspectives on one of the most significant developments in today’s labor market: the rise of platform work.

Addressing a Changing European Labour Landscape

As digital platforms continue to reshape employment across Europe, this interdisciplinary conference will examine how these changes affect labour relations, regulatory frameworks, and market structures.

A central focus will be the transposition of the Platform Work Directive, a key European policy initiative. Discussions will critically explore how this directive interacts with national labour systems, considering differences in institutional and socio-economic contexts across countries.

Importantly, the conference adopts a feminist and intersectional perspective to better understand how platform work affects diverse groups and contributes to existing inequalities.

Topics and Contributions

UNYP welcomes submissions that contribute to current academic and policy debates on platform work. Relevant topics include:

  • Algorithmic management and its impact on workers
  • Data governance and digital oversight
  • Employment classification in platform-based work
  • Implications for social protection and labour regulation
  • Gender and intersectional inequalities in the digital economy

Both researchers and practitioners are encouraged to contribute, supporting dialogue between theory, policy, and real-world application.

Programme and Format

The conference will feature:

  • A keynote speech dedicated to the European Platform Work Directive
  • Thematic sessions with international contributors
  • Opportunities for both in-person and online participation

Selected presenters may be invited to present either on-site at UNYP in Prague or remotely.

Submission and Deadlines

Applicants are invited to submit an abstract of up to 500 words, including their name, title, affiliation, and contact details.

  • Abstract submission deadline: April 6, 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: April 13, 2026
  • Registration deadline: May 30, 2026

Submissions should be sent to: amangarella@unyp.cz

The full conference programme will be announced in May 2026.

Academic Oversight

All abstracts will be reviewed by a scientific committee to ensure academic rigor and relevance to ongoing European policy discussions.
