UNYP Launches Master’s in Psychology

The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) has launched a new English-taught Master’s in Psychology, providing students with advanced training in psychological research, assessment, and applied practice within an international academic environment in Central Europe.

The two-year graduate program is designed for students seeking advanced education in psychology within an international academic environment and supports preparation for research, professional development, and doctoral-level study.

Delivered through UNYP’s School of Psychology, the curriculum combines contemporary psychological theory, research methodology, ethics, and scientifically grounded approaches to psychological practice within Czech, European, and international contexts.

The program combines research-based academic training with supervised practical experience in an international learning environment.

The program builds on more than ten years of UNYP’s experience delivering an accredited Master’s program in psychology in the Czech Republic and further develops the university’s established academic, research, and professional foundation in the field.

A Graduate Program Built Around Research and Practice

UNYP offers one of the Czech Republic’s few English-language Master’s programs in Psychology. The program builds on one of the country’s most established English-language psychology pathways, with more than 500 graduates across UNYP’s psychology programs.

According to Andreas Antonopoulos, Rector of the University of New York in Prague, the launch reflects the university’s continued focus on internationally oriented and student-centered education.

“Psychology plays an increasingly important role in understanding the challenges facing individuals, organizations, and society today. This program reflects UNYP’s commitment to academically rigorous, internationally focused education that prepares students to think critically, act ethically, and work effectively across diverse professional environments.”

Combining Academic Study with Practical Training

A key component of the program is its 450-hour supervised practical training requirement. Beginning in the second semester, students complete internship experience across professional settings, helping connect academic knowledge with real-world application.

The curriculum integrates graduate-level coursework in psychological theory, scientific research, ethics, and applied psychological competencies. Core areas of study include developmental psychology, health psychology, neuropsychology, organizational psychology, psychological assessment, and advanced research methodology.

Students also explore counseling and clinical perspectives through coursework focused on psychopathology, psychotherapy, and psychological assessment across different populations and age groups. Elective courses allow students to further develop expertise in areas such as forensic psychology, cross-cultural psychology, psychopharmacology, and coaching while working with individuals with ADHD, ASD, and learning differences.

Marek Preiss, Program Guarantor of the Master’s in Psychology program at UNYP, says the program was designed to balance strong academic foundations with applied experience.

“The program connects rigorous theoretical and research preparation with meaningful supervised practice. Students develop competencies in psychological assessment, ethics, research, and applied psychological work while gaining experience across diverse professional environments.”

Flexible Structure for International and Working Students

The program is structured primarily around weekend instruction, with classes typically held every second weekend. This format supports students balancing graduate study with professional or personal commitments.

Located in Prague, one of Europe’s most international student cities, the program provides access to a diverse academic and professional environment within the European Union.

Graduates are prepared for roles in educational settings, organizational environments, counseling and support services, research institutions, and other psychology-related fields. The program also provides a strong foundation for doctoral study and continued professional development.

While the program includes coursework in counseling, psychopathology, and psychological assessment, it does not, by itself, qualify graduates as clinical psychologists.
