Dr Sebalo is a researcher, statistician, and counselling psychologist. His research focuses on aggressive and suicidal behaviour, violence risk assessment, conspiratorial beliefs, cognitive processes, the relationship between lifestyle and mental health, and the treatment and rehabilitation of forensic psychiatric patients.

He currently works at the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, alongside maintaining a private counselling psychology practice. He also collaborates with the Czech Ministry of Justice on a project aimed at preventing domestic violence and with the Czech Ministry of Health on a project supporting the development of forensic mental health teams and improving violence risk assessment in psychiatric settings.

Before taking up his current roles, Dr Sebalo worked in a high secure forensic psychiatric hospital in the United Kingdom and held academic positions at the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Kent.

At the University of New York in Prague (UNYP), he teaches undergraduate courses in Statistics, Experimental Methods, and Forensic Psychology, as well as Research Methods in Psychology within the master’s programme.

Dr Sebalo also conducts research in collaboration with UNYP students. One ongoing project examines the use of artificial intelligence and social media and their effects on the mental health of young adults. A second stream of student research involves a series of meta-analytic projects across different areas of psychology.

The latest publication produced in collaboration with UNYP students is:
