Why Accreditations Matter in Higher Education

Accreditations are a key indicator of a university’s academic quality, credibility, and long-term value. For families, students, and employers alike, accreditation provides assurance that a university meets clearly defined academic and quality standards. Furthermore, they show that the degrees awarded are formally recognised. Accredited universities are regularly evaluated by national and international quality assurance bodies. As a result, there is transparency, accountability, and continuous academic improvement.

Most importantly, accreditation affects degree recognition, employability, and eligibility for further study. In addition, it affects the transferability of credits, a critical factor when students plan international careers or postgraduate education.

UNYP Accreditation Status — At a Glance

The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) holds a strong combination of national, European, British, and American accreditations. Therefore, this reflects its international academic standards and recognition.

UNYP is an officially accredited higher education institution under the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. This ensures compliance with national and European higher education standards.

The university also holds institutional accreditation from the British Accreditation Council (BAC), confirming alignment with UK quality assurance principles.

UNYP’s business programmes, including the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and MBA, are accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). This is a recognised US accrediting body focused on the quality of business education.

Four-year American bachelor’s degrees are awarded in cooperation with SUNY Empire State University. Their degrees are regionally accredited in the United States.

The MBA programme is additionally accredited by the Czech Association of MBA Schools (CAMBAS). Thus, this reflects high standards in postgraduate management education.

European Accreditations and Recognition

The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports officially recognizes UNYP as a private higher education institution.

“The National Accreditation Bureau for Higher Education (NAU) is the Czech national agency responsible for evaluating and accrediting universities and study programs.”

UNYP has been accredited and recognized by the Czech Association of MBA Schools (CAMBAS) since 2003.

UNYP has been accredited as an Independent Higher Education Institution by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education since 2001.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations are the most widely recognized qualifications in Europe. ACCA recognizes several UNYP undergraduate courses as providing exemptions from some ACCA exams.

The European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) is one of the most prominent global institutions. It provides institutional and individual accreditations of coaching and mentoring practice. UNYP MBA students who successfully complete the Coaching and mentoring course qualify for individual accreditation by EMCC as coaches/mentors.

American Accreditations and Recognition

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has approved several UNYP programs. As a result, United States veterans and their eligible dependents who are interested in studying in Europe may use their veterans’ benefits for four-year bachelor’s degree programs, MBA programs, and Ph.D. programs.

All of UNYP’s four-year American bachelor’s degree programs lead to the award of an American bachelor’s diploma from SUNY Empire State University.
