International Communication Conference at UNYP

The Communication and Mass Media department at UNYP, in association with Charles University, will be hosting a pre-conference of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) in early November. Media Accountability at the Crossroads: European Challenges and Perspectives, organized by the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Alpen-Adria- Universität Klagenfurt, and the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism, will take place in the auditorium on November 8th.

The pre-conference will be held in the context of the 6th European Communication Conference hosted by ECREA, which takes place at the Congress Centre in Prague between November 9-12. A major international conference, hundreds of scholars from around the world will converge on Prague for several days of dozens of papers, panels and posters related to the theme ‘Mediated (Dis) Continuities: Contesting Pasts, Presents and Futures.’

The conference at UNYP will consist of no less than 16 papers on the theme of media accountability by premier European communication scholars. With themes ranging from media accountability in the era of post-truth politics, to the relationship between private and civil society actors in media regulation processes, the conference will approach accountability from perspectives of audiences, media transformation and convergence, as well as business contexts. A particular highlight undoubtedly will be the presentation of results of a 33-country study on media accountability in Europe.

The conference, although completely sold-out, will be attended by three members of the Communication Studies Society (CSS) at UNYP, who will covering the discussions and making it available to the UNYP communication community on the major’s Facebook page.
