Three Tips All New UNYP Students Have to Know

Starting somewhere new is always a bit daunting. That’s why it’s always a good idea to try to get some tips on how to make the transition a little bit easier. When starting at UNYP, here are three things that will make your first few days at the school simpler and more rewarding:

You’re required to carry your UNYP ID without at all times on campus, but you won’t have trouble forgetting it because of all the doors it opens for you, both at school and in Prague in general. Not only does the card is your ticket to the computer labs and library, but also to the swimming pool and fitness center. The card entitles you to discounts of up to 50% at dozens of restaurants, retailers, services, and other businesses all over the city. Not only that, but the ID gives you access to the internationally recognized ISIC student discount card.

UNYP Library

The library is located on the first floor of the Londýnska building and serves as an information and research hub for students. There are more than 16,000 books, periodicals, and audio/visual materials, most of them in English. Students can also access the Empire State College online library with more than 60,000 books and 57,000 full-text periodicals. Even if you don’t need to do any research at the moment, stop by to say hello to Librarian Anna Oravcová, especially if you’re a hip-hop fan. In her spare time, Anna hosts Cypher, a weekly radio show on Radio Spin 96.2 focusing the genre.

UNYP Student Clubs

The University has a range of clubs to match almost any interest. If you’re interested in movies, join the Film club. There’s a student council that organizes parties, social events, and trips, as well as the annual BBQ. If you’re into forensics, there’s the debate society that has participated in competitions in Belgrade, Kiev, and Tallinn. And finally, what would a university experience be without sports? UNYP has the Blazers, the school’s soccer and basketball teams.
