A UNYP guide to enjoying Halloween in quarantine

In previous years, UNYP always organized Halloween celebrations: the Student Council threw a great party, and the Psychology Club held a movie night which was open to everyone, with pizza, drinks, and fun games and entertainment. Unfortunately, we have had to postpone Halloween activities this year – we know you will understand that due to the current global situation with the pandemic, we need to keep everyone safe by maintaining social distancing. However, the restrictions needn’t prevent you from having your own party and entertainment delivered directly to your doorstep! 

Have a safe Halloween in Prague under the social distancing rules

What is the best way to enjoy your Halloween at home? Fabulous food and great movies, of course! If you live in Prague and want food delivered directly to your house, there’s an app for that. Damejidlo and Wolt deliver food from your favorite restaurants and fast food chains directly to your house. But don’t worry if fast food and restaurants are not to your taste or budget – supermarkets such as Tesco and Lidl have their own delivery apps available on all platforms. If you’re looking for even more variety, apps like Rohlík will deliver a wide selection of groceries to your house, so you can cook the perfect meal at home.  

We’ve put together a list of our favorite Halloween-themed movies that for a guaranteed thrilling, entertaining, and safe evening. 

Ghostbusters: This classic is a must-rewatch, with its mix of suspenseful drama, hilarious comedic writing, and 80s sci-fi effects.   

Hocus Pocus: If you’re into witches, black cats, and nifty Disney throwbacks, Hocus Pocus is the movie for you. This movie presents the story of unusual events and unordinary disturbances in the most “ordinary” city in the United States, Salem, where the infamous witch trials were held. If you are looking for a funny and enchanting experience, you will enjoy Hocus Pocus. 

The Halloween series: You have seen the character in advertisements and probably played him in video games, but the original appearance of the psychotic serial killer Michael Myers was in the 1978 premier of the first movie. A suspenseful, thrilling, and entertaining experience that we recommend you do not miss.

The Addams Family: Everyone has seen the original movie, the parodies, the series, the knock-offs, the sequels, the animated connotations, and we just have to recommend it again because it really is that good. No matter how old it gets, and no matter how many times we’ve seen it, we always return to The Addams Family, in all its variations. An all-time classic.

Any Tim Burton movie: If you’re thinking about any animated thriller or scary movie that creeped you out to your core, American filmmaker Tim Burton was probably involved somewhere. As well as giving a new depth and flavor to horror movies, he has given the genre more mainstream appeal than ever before, without losing any horrific aspects. His films include legendary classics such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Monster House, Frankenweenie, and Edward Scissorhands, and we recommend watching all of them!
