UNYP students find success at Poland’s most prestigious Model United Nations conference

As students returned to their classes for the first week of semester two members of MUNYP (Model United Nations Society at UNYP) were traveling to Warsaw to attend the 21st Polish Model UN conference, known as POLMUN.

Anastasia Latenkova, who is currently studying a BA in International & Economic Relations at UNYP, was presented with a ‘Best Delegate‘ award for her work representing Armenia in the UN Human Rights Council. Anastasia’s group was addressing ‘Humanitarian Concerns on the Euroasian Border’, and were tasked with writing a resolution for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was Anastasia’s third conference, who credits the experience with improving her debating and negotiating skills, as well as building her confidence and knowledge, and of course creating some fantastic connections along the way.

POLMUN is the oldest Model UN conference in Poland, and the event was held in the country’s historic Senate buildings. UNYP’s Arina Rossikhin also attended the conference, representing Nigeria in the Economic and Financial Committee. All of the delegates were treated to a tour of Warsaw, attended the delegates’ ball, and spent a day attending workshops on public speaking and Rules of Procedure.

MUNYP participants meet once a month to simulate the UN conference, discussing topics and learning conference rules in preparation for future Model UN events. Any students who are interested in gaining confidence in public speaking while learning about global issues are encouraged to join, please check the website for more information: www.munyp.com.
